One of the tactics of the communists was to immediately recruit very rich people who can lie as easily as they breathe. Seems like there must be a lot of those around.

I think that the involvement in politics for most American billionaires is as a hobby. They throw around a little “mad money” but unless they are planning to run for office themselves (Kennedys, Ross Perot) they know that they will continue to win, no matter who is in the White House.
Last time I looked at the stats, there were 237 millionaires (but no billionaires) in Congress. That’s 44% of all members.
The wealthiest member of Congress is Darrell Issa (interesting of Christian-Arab heritage) Republican of California followed by Jane Harman, Herb Kohl, and John Kerry Democrats of California, Wisconsin, and Massachusetts.
