WHEELING - The issue of Medicaid and Medicare reimbursement could become a weighty issue with employees at Ohio Valley Medical Center and East Ohio Regional Hospital.
The employees were informed by letter this week of a proposal currently before the Health Care Reform Bill Commission. That proposal would cut Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement to hospitals where more than 5 percent of hospital employees are found to be 25 percent heavier than generally accepted height and weight guidelines.

Communism never was pretty. The government runs America now!
I say cut the salaries of politicians and their staff who are overweight by 25%.
LOL. What the hell does this have to do with patient care?
Also, Democrat strongholds such as West Virginia and Mississippi are the fattest states in the union. I suspect this will soon be dropped.
The easiest way to solve this problem is to fire obese people. Overweight healthcare workers have suddenly become unemployable.
“Communism never was pretty. The government runs America now!”
Which translates into “the morons run America now”, including a President who is getting ready to take his fifth vacation since July, and who needs a teleprompter to make simple announcements.
Our government has been on a rocketsled towards total control of every aspect of OUR lives. Totalitarian is a perfect description. They no longer respond to the will of the people.
A blind man can see that they will not voluntarily cease, and that there are too many of us that will not submit. There is a trainwreck coming,,,
this next election might be our final chance to save and hit the reset button on America.
Moochelle and Obama feast, while the peasants starve.
Well that should really solve the shortage of healthcare workers! ;-)
I’m related to someone that works in a hospital, and they are very familiar with the financial aspect of things there.
They were already losing money from the medicare/medicaid patients, and the government is going to cut back reimbursement even more. Being in a rural area, they honestly don’t know if they are going to be able to survive for much longer.
Yes, fire the fat ones! They don’t run their personal life the way the central planners say they should. They would never think of also doing the same for people who drive to work alone in an SUV, or write an unhappy letter to a democrat congressman.
Gosh, I looked and looked.
But I cannot find anywhere in the Constitution where the Federal Government can punish health care services to the sick and infirm in poor states, because some of their nurse’s aides are pleasantly pudgy.
In fact I find PRECISELY THE OPPOSITE in the Bill of Rights, 10th Amendment:
“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”
What you say is true. I work in a hospital and think it won’t be long before the smokers and obese are charged higher premiums for their health insurance. For a few years they’ve strongly encouraged the work force to join work supervised exercise programs. You weigh in, show a weight loss and get discounts on your health insurance premiums. Smoking on hospital property can cost you your job, and yes I mean even smoking in your own car in the parking lot.
Trim the fat by increasing wait times. Welcome to socialized Hcare.
The insidious tentacle of communism slithers forward a little at a time.
Was it Stalin that said he would bury us without firing a shot? We have a spawn of Stalin in the White house.
Let’s trim the fat in the White House budget, the Congressional Budget, and the administrative agencies budgets, and fire everyone who is classified as “obese!” Yeah! That’s the ticket!
and you are exactly correct, a hospital who can avoid a 2% loss in bottom line by firing overweight employess? It would happen in the blink of an eye.
Or imagine instead of firing, an announcement of no raises because of a few fat employees. The fat are tormented, and some are fired. So a few of the fired shoot up the skinny MBA hospital administrator, and the people who tormented them for not entering the hospital marathon.
So of course, now we need more gun control, and mandatory mental health checks for healthcare workers, etc etc etc.
The revolutionary democrats love *anything* that turns people against each other. It creates a million problems, which then, they must “solve”.
