Senate Dem leaders want to repeal tax provision in healthcare law
The Hill's Healthwatch ^ | August 6, 2010 | Mike Lillis and Vicki Needham

Senate Democrats want to kill a controversial part of their own healthcare law that imposes new tax burdens on small businesses. The proposal — introduced Thursday by Sen. Bill Nelson (D-Fla.) with the support of party leaders — would eliminate a new tax filing requirement that many conservatives, backed by the business community, deem a job killer...The Democrats bill...would pay to eliminate the small business provision by killing a tax break for the nation's oil giants, including BP.

The action comes as Republicans hit President Obama and Democrats hard over the economy. Businesses are not hiring enough to lower the nation's 9.5 percent unemployment rate, and the GOP is intensifying its arguments that Democratic tax and regulatory policies are to blame...

At issue is a provision of the Democrats’ new healthcare reform bill requiring businesses to file 1099 forms with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) when goods purchased from another business exceed $600 in a year. Under previous law, the reporting requirement pertained only to services exceeding that amount...The new mandate goes into effect at the start of 2012...

Election-year conversions. They ALL VOTED FOR OBAMACARE. They voted this into law. In lockstep. NOW, all of a sudden they care about small business. Fricking hypocrits. Poseurs. Liars. It will be business as usual Nov. 3. They think we are so stupid.

Nancy Pelosi told us we would find out about all these “goodies” AFTER the bill was passed.

Obamacare in general needs to be killed since Article 1 Section 8 of the Constitution does not specifically list regulating health care as an enumerated power and is therefore unconstitutional on the federal level!

She is not the leader of the Senate. Unlike the rest of us, they at least had a chance to read it. And no one was forced to vote for it at gunpoint.

Yes we’ll repeal the tax on your small business but it will cost you 30% more in operating costs due to the high cost of fuel, energy, inventory, equipment and shipping.

Thanks.

Do they think small business owners are toothless beach panhandlers selling kites for donations? No offense to panhandlers.

I’m a little confused...wasn’t there a point made after it passed that the dems forgot to put a “severability clause” in the healthcare bill? If true, it’s my understanding that no part of it can be repealed without the whole thing being repealed.

Anyone know?

We are governed by low level staffers, that pounded out a 2000 page monstrosity late at night over stale pizza. It turns out that it would have been a good idea for their elected bosses to read what they produced before voting on it after all.

I agree with everything you say, except for the stale pizza part. Capitol Hill is home to one of the best pizza joints in the world, Al’s Gourmet Pizza, and they deliver fresh to the hill at all hours. Their pizza is divine. I prefer the Leonardo: garlic white sauce with spinach, feta, mushrooms, sausage and “a Touch of Hot Peppers.” I am sure it was low-level staffers, I am sure it was late at night, but I think they were nomming some excellent pizza.

Leave the 1099 law intact, it is an Obamacare killer.
