Sorry for the long hiatus, but life called me and I had to reply. But here I am, back again in all my thrifty glory, with some fun things to share and some amazing things to look forward to.
Today, the fun sharing stuff: Ive been to a few yard sales recently and picked up oodles of stuff for a song or two. Some of it was stuff to keep, like a Lucy Davies framed print of a blue and white kitchen counter (much like my own) to hang above my kitchen counter! Asking price was $2.00, but since I also purchased from the same yard sale a stacked set of sterling silver rings (one set with a pretty smoky quartz gemstone) I was able to bargain the seller down to a set price for both...
...Not only that, but I was able to get some dazzling photos of the osprey family, or at least two of the siblings as they practiced flying and diving. The thrifty husband documented the photos on his blog, and if you want to see the originals, click here to view the original size photos; a few are blurry, but there are a few that are magnificent if I do say so myself.

Great!! I love to go to yard/garage sales, too. Some of my better purchases include diamonds—in particular an old european cut around 3/4 carats, rubies, emeralds, sapphires, 14k and 18k bracelets, and lots of sterling silver jewelry, all very cheap. I buy it either to wear or scrap, so broken or whole, it does not matter. One does need to know the european gold and silver markings.
In short, Saturday mornings are treasure hunts for me.

This is a series question: can you tell me any more about the Lucy Davies print? (I might know the artist.)
Wow! You must live in a pretty high-end area! I occasionally find some gold, but it’s mostly sterling which I clean up and slap on eBay. I find better luck with gold and gemstones at local auctions.
I once bought at auction a box lot of “costume” jewelry which contained a gorgeous Mexican sterling and amethyst bracelet and earrings (sold it at a Skinner auction for a very large sum), a lapis and 14K gold bead necklace, and about $2K worth of other non-costume jewelry. I paid $90 for the whole thing, picked through it, and then sold the remainder on eBay for $75. One of my best experiences!
I’d love to know more about the artist, too. All I can tell you is that I bought the picture on Cape Cod, and it’s a long, narrow picture of a kitchen counter with, well, kitcheney stuff on it, mostly in blues, yellows, and golds for colors.
I’ll be glad to take a photo and show you, if you’ll email me here at FR.
