Let me reply: That was then and then is now. I was addressing the VN Era and the draft. As for now, I think this is a “reverse draft”, with many social factors that are still forcing youngsters to join the military to survive. (poor economy, to wit)
To answer your question directly, I think the goverment has no right to enforce anything, we the people, don’t support.
Now, here’s the real issue: We, the people, are not being heard. So, you want to volunteer for your country or do I have to force you? Get my drift? ;)
..and then is now.
then= this is now.
“As for now, I think this is a reverse draft, with many social factors that are still forcing youngsters to join the military to survive. (poor economy, to wit)”
While you might be correct in the “now” part...maybe during the past year...we’ve had a voluntary military for a very long time, and they are excellent.
It works better than the draft as those people WANT to serve, instead of being forced to serve.
And...no...I’m not getting your drift WRT this part of your post.
“Now, heres the real issue: We, the people, are not being heard. So, you want to volunteer for your country or do I have to force you? Get my drift? ;)”
You still sound so bitter...
Maybe we are of the same mind...but we’re having a hard time getting there. ;o)
That being said, to say that those who tried not to be drafted were cowards is beyond despicable.
