This is a commie blog so I don't exactly trust it. However it is something of note Rangel might bring back the draft.

This bill is not a request born out of need, or even want, on the side of the military. It’s born out of jealousy and malice so Rangel can force “the rich kids” into the military.

Commie blog or not, this wouldn’t surprise me one bit. Dear leader’s going to need his own goon squads soon if he keeps up his antics.

The 18 - 24 age group is already losing that magical feeling, if this goes through it will be a full fledged Indian Uprising

Rangel introduces this legislation every session. It never gets out of committee.

Welcome to Free Republic.

The only way this is going to work out is if it is a scam to get more people on the dole. As in acorn type community organizing disguised as a civilian military. Just another way to funnel more money to the underground marxist organizations.

What is wrong with bringing back the draft?

It’s the only thing Obama may do that’s right.

Or do you think the burden of defending America should fall on the same 0.3% of the population while the rest of us are at the mall?

The draft is another form of a tax. Dems will vote in the draft because they can push other forms of taxes any higher right now.

I was drafted into the service and had to go to Vietnam and carry a rifle next to the DMZ (be a target). Why should my four kids be drafted now and go to a hell hole like Afghanistan to get their butts shot off for this President? Get us out of Afghanistan and get us a new President!

The Democrats/Socialists see the US Military as an affront to their social spending projects and float these types of legislative acts in order to gin up opposition to the military.

Several weeks ago, Barack Obama stated in a speach that in 2011 the deficit hawks now critizing him about spending will be complaining about his budget cuts. Unsaid was that he will attempt to cut the DoD budget to less than bone, abrogating his primary duty as Commander in Chief to provide for the security of the nation. Watch this scenario unfold as the next year unfolds. The Dems and are very sick people, and will trade your and my security for an increased opportubnity to pillage expanded social programs for themselves and their cronies.......

Rangel has been talking about this for years, since the beginning of the Iraq War. There is a method to his madness.

In the 60’s, when the draft was in effect, it was easy to turn public opinion against the Vietnam war since everyones kid was in jeopardy. By continuing to beat into the consciousness of general population that the war was bad, and their kid was at risk of dying, they were able to turn the tide of popular opinion against the war.

Today with the all volunteer army, only those who volunteer are at risk of dying. If the left manages to reinstate the draft, they hope to reenact the popular uprising against the way that was seen against Vietnam. I heard Rangel out of his own mouth say as much on CSPAN during the demonstrations against the Iraq war. All of the old anti-war activists from the 60’s are chomping at the bit of a renewed draft. Noam Chomsky has been a proponent of a renewed draft. Furthermore, they want to see young people not suited for military drafted. They want to see atrocities, they want to see officers fragged. They want to relive all of the old 60’s memories.

You know, this could actually be the answer to our immigration problem.

Let ‘em in, swear ‘em in, draft ‘em. Watch ‘em leave.

Ha! Rangel has been pushing for this for a long time!

Bringing this up right before the mid-terms means he knows it doesn’t have a prayer after the elections...just like he and Maxine would love to have their trials ASAP.

This is worth the investment in an industrial strength, commercial grade popcorn popper...with coconut oil! lol

I Agree that there should be some kind of required service after high school.

Every high school graduate should be required to spend two years in military service. The handicapped and disadvantaged should not be exempt. There are jobs they can do that don't require climbing a rope ladder or jumping out of a plane.

Too many kids leave high school and never find their place in the world. Many who go straight to college are unprepared, unfocused and poorly motivated. The frat world is much more important to them than academia. Speaking of academia - kids with two years of service discipline under their belts would be better prepared to process some of the biased views of professors. Many never go to college, settling for fast food work or clerking at the mall. Then there are the ones who lack any life disciplines and end up "hanging out", doing drugs, committing crimes, etc. They end up hating the system and blaming it for their woes. The discipline of military service would be beneficial to so many of these kids. At least the military will teach them that not all authority figures are there to hold their hands and tell them how special they are. Getting up early, hard work and having others depend on you are very valuable teaching tools! You wouldn't necessarily require all of them to go to war, but you would teach them a trade of some kind. Some would be used in community service, but not for "community organizing". No knocking on doors and asking people what kind of light bulbs they use or how much insulation is in the attic. No more calling out the National Guard for emergencies, or guarding the border, requiring many hard working Americans to miss months of work and income. Train these recruits to do these jobs.

A lot of these tweens are going to end up on assistance anyway. Why not make them spend two years contributing something for the pay? Some will come out just as angry and disturbed as they always were. But, some will thrive under their first experience with discipline and will come out of it ready to enter the work force and raise a family. Some argue that you can make them sign up but you can't make them do the work. Can't you imagine some of the petulant little twerps telling thier NCO "I ain't doin that" or "Do it yourself, MF!"! Some will refuse to cooperate with their supervisors or refuse to sign up at all. That kid would then forfeit any future claims to government benefits. Unless, of course, they start earning a good income, paying regular taxes and contributing to society. Then, if they should fall on hard times, they could make claims based on what they have paid in. In other words, QUIT ENABLING KIDS TO COME OUT OF SCHOOL WITH NO INTENT OF ACCOMPLISHING ANYTHING IN THEIR LIVES!

This has nothing to do with the draft or the military service.

This has everything to do with creating a national security force, commanded by Obama, and meant to terrorize citizens into obedience to Das Reich.

We are truly witnessing what happened in 1930's Germany.

The democrats pull this crap before every election. It won’t go anywhere. Personally I have nothing against the draft, but a volunteer army is always preferable.
