White House's Gibbs Blasts Rush Limbaugh to Defend Federal Automaker Takeover (Video)

What is it with this White House and publicly calling out conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh?

If you recall, back in January 2009 President Barack Obama told Republican congressional leaders to quit listening to Limbaugh if they wanted to get things done. It's happened once again. During the White House daily press briefing on July 29, Press Secretary Robert Gibbs took another couple of jabs Limbaugh - this time over the auto manufacturer bailout. In responding to a question concerning charges of "socialism," Gibbs went right after Limbaugh.

"Look, I'll say this - Rush Limbaugh and others wanted to walk away," Gibbs said. "Rush Limbaugh and others saw a million people that work at these factories that worked at these part suppliers that supported communities and thought that we should all just walk away. The president didn't think that walking away from a million jobs in these communities made a lot of economic sense."

If GM had filed for bankruptcy there would have been no difference in the job futures for the workers.

GM did file for bankruptcy.

The original company trades under the symbol MTLQQ.PK

[by buying several $41,000 Chevy Volts]

I can either put $41,000 into a Chevy Volt, OR I can put $41,000 into my 57 Chevy BelAir and have a dream car perpetually worth $80,000 that I can keep going for 100 years.

What to do, what to do.

Yeah... I’m sure it wasn’t Rush’s idea to drop them, no matter what he says. He’s a businessman first. He’d take their money if the regime would pay it.

You may keep it running but you won’t be able to license it.
One of the goals of the left is to use inspection and emissions laws to get old cars off the roads and force new purchases of “politically correct” vehicles.

Japan has successfully accomplished this already.

Are you familiar with GM's 50 state emissions legal E-ROD crate engine? It's an LS-3 crate motor shown here in a '55 Belaire at 2009 SEMA:

Beautiful, don't you think?

It also includes the wiring harness, exhaust manifolds, catalytic converters, oxygen sensors, mass airflow sensor, air filter, and fuel tank evaporation canister, all of which are certified smog legal in all 50 states so long as the complete package is installed. This means that anyone looking to drop a modern, 430-hp V-8 in their project can do so without having to worry about getting the car past smog, so long as they make room for all the necessary equipment.

Nothing like having free publicity from the WH to increase Rush’s audience.

The new GM electric only goes 40 miles before it needs to be recharged. Where are the recharge stations? How long to recharge? Many questions yet to be answered on this car.

Watch out you will bring down the wrath of the EV Mafia and the GM Gestapo. They will tolerate no criticism of the magic electric vehicle. Oh yes they by worshiping at the battery powered alter of Electric Vehicles have true knowledge.

it will take “cap and tax” forcing $5/gal fuels before edrive cars have much economics going for them

Higher than that. We were running the numbers on a thread a couple of days ago. And even without taking into account the time value of money gas would have to be over $8 a gallon and electricity no more expensive than it is today for the Volt to break even over a six year period. Of course that assumes you pay full price. With the welfare state picking up 7500 it may pay off a bit sooner.

"Now, Mr. President, look at this inkblot and tell me what you see."

"Uh, uhmmm, I see... Rush Limbaugh, that bastard, that's him! He's climbing a mountain, uhh, to, um, drop something, yes! It's an anvil! It's Rush Limbaugh trying to drop an anvil on my head to make me FAIL!"

Well, I’m sure that it was Rush’s idea to drop them. He had a good relationship and did GM a world of good and they wanted to continue with him.

Rush has no problem getting advertisers.
