Obesity is the new slavery
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel ^ | July 13, 2010 | James Causey

Posted on 07/28/2010 6:45:51 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

First Lady Michelle Obama told the NAACP to move past the slavery narrative because something else is harming minority children more than Jim Crow. That threat is obesity.

Obama is right. We’re decades beyond slavery and Jim Crow. This is not to say that those issues are not important because they are. Knowing one’s history helps one to better focus on the future, but holding on to the past and expecting reparations in some way, shape or form is hoping for that pie in the sky.

Minorities may not be able to control how certain people may judge us but we can take control of our health.

Obama said black children are significantly more likely to be obese than white children and are nearly half of all black kids will develop diabetes at some point.

I witnessed this first hand while shopping in an ALDI food store Monday after work. I stopped in the store to buy grapes, oranges, apples and carrots for my snack. I ended up in line behind a black couple with three children.

The oldest boy was about 6 and the youngest boy was about two years. The woman had a grocery cart full of food but everything was processed. She had sugary cereals, processed meats, cans of ravioli, fish sticks, frozen dinners, packaged cookies and chips.

Her bill came to just over $100. My bill was just over $10 for a hand full of groceries. Packaged, processed meals are less expensive and in these days people are trying to make their dollars go farther. But people need to have the knowledge to make healthier choices.

If we don’t do anything to reverse this trend Obama said “our kids won’t be in any shape to continue the work begun by the founders of this great organization.”

Obama made her statement at NAACP’s annual convention on Monday.

So my question to you is this. Does the health of kids trump discussions about race today? More food for thought: Did anyone hear some of the statements from New Berlin residents last night over the issue of low income housing? We still have a long ways to go on both fronts in this country.

packaged and processed foods are no longer alive and worth eating........shop the perimeters of the grocery store and farmer’s markets.....cheaper and healthier.

eons ago, when I worked in a grocery store food stamps were spent on frozen tv dinners found on sale. add in some soda and candy and the cart was full.

nutrition classes and cooking lessons make more sense. buy some ground beef and make a casserole that you can eat the rest of the week. REAL food at least.

suddenly it is less expensive than the (healthy) raw materials that went into it? What?????

When 10 million fat blacks buy your burger, at .01 cent profit, you are way better off than trying to preserve foods w/o salt.... you are an idiot..

High Fructose Corn Syrup. Used in place of sugar ( for the past 20 + years) it metabolizes far more slowly than cane sugar.

“It’s true. Who’s going to hire fatty? It shows a complete lack of personal dignity.”

NOT to take issue with you, but....

“It’s true. Who’s going to hire Obama? It shows a complete lack of personal dignity.”

Larry Sinclair, gay. (allegedly snorted coke with the “Won” AND had, allegedly, “relations” with the “Won”, too.)
Reggie Love,?.
Donald Young,(gay-murdered—Rev. Wright “choir member”—mother is wanting investigation into murder. Hope she’s in a “safe-house”.....)
Larry Bland, (gay-murdered—Rev. Wright “choir member”-”knew” the “Won”.)
Nate Spencer, (gay-murdered; 2007-knew the “Won”)
Kal Pen,(Dupont Circle, Washington, DC-after hours gay area-was gonna be “appointed” by the “Won” for some sort of “position”...got robbed of his CELL PHONE at Dupont Circle one evening-—did he have contact numbers in his phone? He turned down the “position” from the “Won” as a result.)

Alas....a complete lack of personal dignity.
But then...we’re talkin’ about obamanoids...AND, the “Won”.

Obesity....yea, right.
If you appoint Kevin Jennings as your “Safe School Czar”, as the “Won” has, then perhaps you should be MORE concerned with AIDS and less with obesity.
(Kevin Jennings founded GLSEN—Gay, Lesbian and Straight “Education”. His “group” handed out fisting kits to kids in 2001....perhaps FISTING is a bit more important now to children as a health concern, than obesity....)

I think she meant to say that Obamanism is the new slavery.

Obesity is one of the effects of cramming down victimization on several generations of people.

Cram down anger...and up pops appetite.

Until Jeremiah Wright came to the fore, Americans didn't realize how much hatred was being shoved onto African Americans.

When you tell people that someone else (other than themselves) is responsible for their problems...you also tell them that the answer to the problems is beyond their control. And that leads to confusion and displacement of anger.

And directing blame externally means directing responsibility externally. And that means that a person, having been stripped of the discipline/strength which is concomitant with responsibility, is powerless to handle the temptation of the all powerful Double Cheezeburger and Super-Sized Order of Fries.

Does my butt look BIGG with this hate whitey attitude?

I used to work the radio contracts in one of those plants. It is more secure than a military base.

Packaged, processed meals are less expensive and in these days people are trying to make their dollars go farther.

Not in my experience. Most frozen dinners (and other convenience foods) cost $2-$5 per serving. I can make homemade spaghetti with meat sauce, $10 worth of ingredients serves 5-6. Homemade burgers for the BBQ, with lettuce and tomatoes, cost about $1.50. Chicken leg with baked potato and veggies, $1.50-$2.50 depending on the specials. Package of two pork chops is $2-$3. I could go on forever- I think it's time to bring back "home ec" classes in schools so that people can learn that cooking your own is cheaper and far, far tastier.

I balked at the same thing! It doesn't make any economic sense that packaged processed advertised meals would be less expensive than the healthy staple items that went into them.

Refrigeration works fine.

There is no need for highly salted or preserved foods, other than to package them up and let them sit on a shelf.

It is a common feature of the diets of obese Americans of whatever population group to rely upon highly salted packaged foods, and there is no need for it, and it is, contrary to the authors suggestion, MORE expensive.

when the power goes off? Here in about 4 years, you are going to have to deal with rolling blackouts.

So fat people are just eating processed foods because of the coming apocalypse when only highly salted packaged foods will be preserved?

Is that really what you are saying? Is that your supposedly rational and coherent linkage to me saying that packaged processed advertised foods are more expensive?

Food stores have backup generators. I don't need or have more than two meals worth of perishables in my fridge anyway; and if the SHTF, I am back up in the country on the family farm growing food and shooting deer.

Besides, as we all saw in “Zombieland”, fat people are the first to go in the Zombie apocalypse.
;)
