To the Pilgrims - the early Calvinists who came on the Mayflower and were among the first founders of what would become this great nation -- all was predetermined: God knew all that had ever been or that ever would be, and their certainty of divine omniscience both raised and answered for them what they believed to be life's most important questions. If God already knows your life and your every deed, then must not God also know if you will be saved? And if God knows that you will be -- if you are indeed one of the "elect" - can you ever sin? Can you do anything at all to avoid God's mercy? Or are you......
