The Dove World Outreach Center, a non-denominational church in Gainesville FL, is planning to mark this year's anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks with a little bonfire of Korans, the holy book of Islam. They even have a Facebook page with a mission statement to justify their actions:
"On September 11th, 2010 we will burn the Koran on the property of Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, FL in remembrance of the fallen victims of 9/11 and to stand against the evil of Islam. Islam is of the devil!"
The church, which also protests against issues such as homosexuality, same-sex marriage, and abortion, has decorated it's front lawn with signs proclaiming "Islam is of the devil!" and it's pastor, Terry Jones, has even authored a book with that title.
According to Jones, the organizers got the idea from another Facebook event, "Everybody Draw Muhammad Day" earlier this year.
In an article released by Religion News Service (RNS), Jones said that protests are key to the mission of his church.
"We feel, as Christians, one of our jobs is to warn," said Jones, and that the goal these and other protests are to give Muslims an opportunity to convert.
Since the Facebook page went up a week ago, Jones said people have been sending him Korans to burn.
Response from Florida's Islamic community has been relatively muted so far. September 11 this year falls within the Eid al-Fitr holiday when Muslims mark the end of fasting for the holy month of Ramadan. RNS reports that local Muslims are planning to use the feast as an opportunity to share Islamic traditions and Qurans with the church members and the wider community.

Yeah, you're right – They'll both probably get very upset.
It’s easy to spot the moderate Muslims. They’re the ones who have run out of bullets.
So, let us know when you've torched the mosque nearest you.

I can’t believe ANYONE here thinks this is a good idea. It’s childish and counterproductive. It’s just plain stupid.
I was lucky enough to have a World History teacher in high school make it clear that Islam gives approval to spread by the sword. That's simply a fact, and all adherents to such a cult are our enemies. Wishing it weren't so doesn't make it not so.
Where would they get the Koran? They would have to buy them to burn them - doesn’t make sense.
Why not celebrate what we have - THE GOOD NEWS! And walk around proclaiming HIS WORDS.
How about “Witness to a Muslim Day?
I agree with you - nothing positive about it.
I will burn anything, draw anything, say anything or any damn thing I want, when I want to how I want to where I want to and I will defend my actions with whatever I want to as well as accept the results and consequences of my actions as part of the aforementioned action.
My problem is the results of my actions are now being politicized I am being herded and classified... my Freedom and Liberty suffer from Political Correctness and that just rachets up my “in your face” behavior cause I have a problem with authority (well documented over my 28 years in the Military) they didn’t change me or win then, neither will Zero and his minions now... and I’m not worried about the UCMJ now at all so...
I see PORK in my future, Bacon, Ham etc and I plan on being in every little place (with my Dog) where anyone says I can’t be and I will have a thriving business and a huge smile on my face.
TT
How is it childish? Have you ever been to a muzzie country? They would kill you if you brought a Bible anywhere near their border. We need to show these people THEY ARE IN AMERICA which is a CHRISTIAN NATION. If they want 2 be Muslim they can go to Saudi Arabia.
Well hold our beers and watch this. Yeehaw, we don’t care what you think Hildy. (More charcoal lighter please)
>>”...how would we like it if the Muslim countries would have burn the Bible days.(?)”
Radical Islamists don’t bother to burn the Bible — they burn Christians (and rape, torture, and otherwise murder them).
DG
I would gladly burn one but I don’t own one nor would spend the money to buy one. If I had one I would pour bacon fat on it 1st lol. Normally I am not for burning books but since they have no respect for other religions but their own I would burn this book. I am sick of muslims & their demands. No alcohol or dogs in taxi’s, foot baths etc. Since they push their bs religion on everyone I guess burning their Koran isn’t a big deal. I still have the right to do it so far...
Going out of my way to insult Muslims is more respect than they deserve IMO.
The problem is, Muslim countries are allowed to enforce discriminative laws against all other religions and suffer no stigma for doing so. That encourages them, and as a tenet of their religion is to instil in their followers the notion that all other religions are to be dominated upon, and that their Allah paves the way for doing so, by making the other religions cede way to Islam, they take it as divine sanction when the rest of the world accommodates Islam while Muslim countries don't even even bother to hint reciprocity, consciously and comfortably.
This imbalance needs to be settled, or else the one-way effects of enforced Muslim ascendancy will live to see the day it rules the entire planet.
That is a very good point.
Excellent idea. I think I’ll participate. In fact CAIR used to send you out a free koran if you ask, wonder if they still do.
Actually I’d like to escalate “Burn a Koran Day” and promote it to “Nuke Mecca Day”. I’ve always advocated nuking their holy site to show that their deity is impotent.
And nuke again, every year.
HIV (Human Islamic Virus) is a disease that our species must eradicate.
In Saudia Arabia, every day is Burn The Bible Day - all non-Islamic religious material brought into the country is confiscated and destroyed. That said, I do think that this demonstration is ill-advised.
Definitely more productive.
