The same Mark Shields who thought the “Contract With America” was dumb. Mark’s track record is not so hot.

Well, Shields is a “former” liberal, wanted a 3rd party of McCain-Lieberman (representing the alleged majority middle — funny how two elections at the Presidential level were lost by these two), wrote in 2007 that the Republican party needed to step away from the small government principles of Reagan and Goldwater, called Palin a cancer on the Republican party, and he urged Obama to run for President. All in all . . . not a conservative or a Republican. He’s Jewish, so I guess that allows him to talk like a socialist while pretending to be a Republican by calling himself a neo-conservative.

I would say that Mark Shields is an expert on "acute dumbness," but (excepting a notable tendency to small spirited spitefulness) I'm not sure he can extend himself far enough beyond trite and predictable "conventional wisdom" to reach any extreme, even that of extreme stupidity.

He's so predictable, and so utterly incapable of original thought, that PBS could probably just air Shields footage from the 1980's, dub in the newer proper nouns, and no one would know the difference.

Didn’t he used to be on the McLaughlin Group and the Capitol Gang back when the Dinosaur Media ruled the earth?

I had wondered whatever became of him...

What is Shields complaining about? Let the Republicans hang out with the Tea Party if they’re that bad then. Of course we all know that this narrative is false, as Republicans are hated by the Tea Party just as much as the Dems are.

If these two agree that the Republicans need to dis-associate from the tea party movement, then they should do exactly the opposite. Shields and Brooks have identified the biggest threat to the dems, popular support of Republican ideals that the party has been running from for years. Re-embracing those ideals will result in election victory even in democrat districts.

The Dems are now Marxist traitors. Cooperating with them would be collusion. It’s an easy equation.
