Is Kirk part of a plot to undermine U.S. Senate conservatives?
Illinois Review ^ | July 22, 2010

Illinois conservative Republicans have a national dilemma mounting right before their eyes. The Hill wrote yesterday that the GOP's Mark Kirk is part of an effort to weaken conservative influence in the U.S. Senate

We let the ball drop when we could've gotten a good conservative like Pat Hughes in the Senate over Kirk. We can't do the same with Castle (also mentioned here). There's plenty of time to get behind Castle's opponent, Christine O'Donnell. Demint is showing interest in her; maybe Palin will follow up. We can donate now, or curse the darkness for the next six years.

Just one of many dropped balls-Graham votes to send Kagan to the floor-I am officially done. I’m voting strictly local races. And if the GOP is not going to fight for the real conservative in MO, I’m not playing anymore. “Electability” will be the death of the Conservatism if we continue to follow the GOP..

This story says more about The Hill writer’s decidedly left-leaning agenda than about Kirk or conservatives. If for no other reason, Kirk’s election would be one more vote to put the Senate back into Republican hands. Better someone who will vote with you some of the time than someone who never will.

Death to RINOs (politically speaking, of course).
This RINO will prevent effective leadership from being appointed in the Senate. I would rather see a CommieCrate take his place, so that effective leadership can be chosen.

The real problem with the GOP is that we are letting the establishment dictate the candidates to us. It’s time for the rank and file and grass roots conservatives to start moving to take over the local clubs and county chairs. It isn’t just democrats we need to get rid of but incumbent clubhouse leadership as well.

What is the gist of Mark Levin’s remarks on this? My audio is broken and I’d like to know what he has to say about it.

I tend to agree with La Lydia. Let’s concentrate on the close Senate races that have already passed the primary stage, and support the conservatives in those primary races that are still going on.

We need some energy on this, starting now. Get out the vote is only part of it. We need to GOTP—get out the participation also.

Levin wants Kirk and Castle to lose but I don not think he knows Castle has a primary. Someone needs to tell him.

He would rather the Dem win in Illinois? Or is there a third party? I don’t think it serves us well to be spiteful. If there is a conservative/Republican surge in November, possibly the weak sisters who win Republican seats can be dragged along to the front lines, somewhat, ideologically, by the momentum.

Electability” will be the death of the Conservatism if we continue to follow the GOP..

Try telling that to some on this forum concerning the U.S.Senate race here in Illinois. Kirk is as bad as it gets, more liberal than most democrats and I will not vote for him just because he has an "R" behind his name.

I'm not a "purist", I realize that we aren't going to get a candidate to suit me every time, I'm willing to bend on a few minor issues but Kirk is dead wrong on every single issue.

Cap and tax, baby killing, gun grabbing, wrong, wrong, wrong.

Hell, if the guy were even 75% Conservative it would be stupid not to support him, but the biggest problem with him is that he is tainted by his connection to the Combine. Even some Conservatives in IL are tainted by that link.

The DNC would never allow these trainwrecks. Their people tow the line or are outside looking in. Our side? Votes for Financial “Reform” and to send Kagan to the floor. That is what hurts me, personally, the most; the destruction of the highest bench. If Sotomayor and Kagan can sail through being the outrageous partisan marxists they are, Bernadine Dohrn should have no problem..

Illinois’ U.S. Senate race will probably have eight candidates, including a Constitution Party candidate, a Libertarian Party candidate, and a conservative independent. A candidate could win with 13% of the vote.

In Feb. 2006, I heard many Republicans say that we should nominate then-Treasurer Judy Topinka, for governor. They said that she would win the general election, since she’s moderate. She won her primary, but, in the general election, she got 38% of the vote. In Jan. 2008, I heard many Republicans say that we should nominate Dr. Steve Sauerberg, for the U.S. Senate. They said that he would win the general election, since he’s moderate. He won his primary, and, in the general election, he got 29% of the vote. These facts prove that, in Illinois statewide elections, moderate Republicans don’t win. Within the past 20 years, Illinois has had one republican U.S. senator, Peter Fitzgerald, a conservative. Since Kirk is liberal, he’ll probably lose.
