Here's a question I have pondered: Why is it that, when a favorite movie like The Conversation is on TV, I can't stop watching it--even though I own the DVD? I could watch it anytime I want to, yet I take the time to watch it on TV. My theory is that it's like anything else in life--Chance encounters are always more satisfying.

My favorite movie “Against All Odds.”
Because it has everything in it. A fantastic underrated performance by the young James Woods. Football. The politics and finance of football ownership. My beloved hometown in one of its heydays (L.A. in the 80s). Great dialogue. Dirty lawyers. The best sportscar chase scene on film on the best street in the world on which to do it (Sunset Blvd). Tropical jungles. Sex in tropical jungles and on beaches. Murder. Gun fight. Racism. And the second best* modern “acting with eyes only” last scene in a movie, with a song to go perfectly with it by Phil Collins in HIS heyday. A scary dog. And a silly song by Kid Creole and the Coconuts. What more could ANYONE want in a film??
* best is Owned by Bob Hoskins in The Long Good Friday. Acting with eyes only is very underrated.

I’ve watched “A Few Good Men” a zillion times, too, and hope I have the pleasure of watching it a zillion more times. It’s a fine movie.
