If a president is pushing unconstitutional programs, then a ruling that upholds the Constitution is, indeed, a smackdown of the unconstitutional president.

How does adherence to the constitution become a smack down. Because it's the function of the Supreme Court to "smack down" attempts to violate the Constitution. Whoever is doing the violating gets "smacked down".
Hopefully very very hard in this case.
