My aunt's farm near Cumberland, MD, had yet another couple of kittens dropped at her barn a few weeks ago. These kittens, however, are "special" in that as young as they are, their rear legs have been "amputated".

My aunt runs a busy farm including dogs living at her house, with many barn cats already (and prefers females) and cannot keep them. Her helper probably can't keep them either, since she also has a dog. They cannot be outside (no WAY in an animal farm near a road) because they are basically crippled and will probably "never make it" on their own outdoors. I cannot take them because of my own "special" dog who also has far too high a prey drive and would be bad news for a perfect cat, too.

So we are trying to see if anyone might be out there to take these kittens into a STRICTLY INDOOR home.

I'll post pix (bad, sorry) and descriptions for each, separately.

gray kitten amputee

Male gray kitten.

Missing both rear legs (essentially, the hocks). Gets around OK but somewhat "slow" as you can imagine.

Very shy but friendly. Hides alot and needs to be coaxed with food, but can be picked up and purrs alot.

Sorry for poor pix quality - last-minute cell-phone camera shot.

If can somehow get them to Louisiana, I will care for them until they die of old age.

I know this is a GS ping, but many of us are general animal lovers. Plus, there doesn't seem to be a general "dog" list now to ping. If you know, please ping them.

GERMAN SHEPHERD PING LIST

Flora Berkemeyer

This is a low-volume list………so don’t worry!

(Please Freep-mail me if you’d like to be on or off the list.)

A cat that lost both rear legs was recently fitted with implanted prosthetics that aren't rejected.

Cat walks with prosthetic legs

If someone wanted to throw down some money, these cats could walk normally again.

MD ping in case anyone in (Western, specifically) MD might help some cats.

If you know anyone with a PA or WV pinglist, that would be great.

Cats are amazing. My Schmeckel Kitty developed a bad colon, so it was removed, necessitating a daily laxative. Then he got hit by a car and his right rear leg was crushed, plus he got a herniated diaphragm. They put his gizzards back and amputated his leg. He stumped along with the best of them. He finally developed kidney failure, and after fighting that for six months I finally had to put him down. Cried for three days. He remained the sweetest, most forgiving kitty throughout. Kitties like that are rare and wonderful.

Hello REBEL---Angels Gate--a rehabilitation facility for abused cats has offered free transportation for your kitties as I wrote you. My friend and Angels Gate wrote me today asking if I have heard from you about this. THey have spaces reserved for the kitties and are waiting to hear from you (or your Aunt) about getting these babies on a happy road to a great life. This is a rare opportunity to be able to get kitties into this great facility.

I am copying everyone in case they have heard from you. Please let us know what is going on.
