This isnt intended as a criticism of Chris Matthews or his statement about Sarah Palin; in fact, hes exactly correct in this analysis. If Palin decides to run for President and scores big in Iowa, survives in New Hampshire, and can go big in South Carolina, she will have a strong lead for the Republican nomination. Actually, thats not exactly news, since thats also the strategy for Mike Huckabee and Tim Pawlenty (who is spending three days in Iowa), and anyone else seeking the Republican nomination. Matthews is also not wrong about what will happen if Palin manages to do it (emphasis mine, courtesy of Greg Hengler):

The left wants Palin to win ... no matter who wins , left or right , we the people lose . Sucks huh ?
The question is how to prevent media malfeasance from “killing her” in the eyes of the mushy middle.
"By any means necessary ..."
It's a disturbing thought. I'm glad she knows how to shoot.
If you and Palin honestly think that she's taken the worst that the media can dish out already, then all I can say is that you haven't seen anything yet. On everything from her quitting as governor through the ethics complaints and on to every position she's taken and every quote she's made, the attacks on Palin will be massive, vicious, and unrelenting. Everything from the Couric interview fiasco on through her latest gaff about where Reagan went to college will be dredged up and replayed. And that's just from her Republican opponents, the media will pile on as well.
Frankly, the press will try to destroy any Repub they see as a threat. They are going to try to destroy Palin regardless, and they are going to try to destroy any leading conservative coming out of the primaries.
They don’t like us. It isn’t just Palin, they don’t like any of us.
If you want a conservative that the press likes, you wind up with someone like (the execrable) McCain. Or (equally execrable) Lindsey Graham. So you can let the press choose your candidate, or you can choose someone you agree with and watch the press go into conniptions. I prefer watching them go into conniptions personally.
ROTFLMAO!!!!
In short, essentially, exactly what they’ve been doing for the last two years.
Good luck with that.
Pretty much, they just won’t cover Palin.
They will cover any weirdos or fringers, real or fake, that claim to support. If they can’t find any, they’ll make it up.
Brit Hume is no longer with Fox and might hopefully be around to answer the call. Him I would trust.
I'm for the "Barracuda" any time she gets ready to roll.
What on earth are you talking about? The left is scared sh*tless of Sarah Palin. Why would they want her to win?
The Unions and Radicals BLACK PANTHERS will do what ever it takes to have Obama win again.. Remember the Ends justify the means to these people.

Since the “Justice” Dept. won’t prosecute armed men who threaten people on camera at the voting booth in the one case, it probably does mean that this tactic will be used in 2012. Violence in pursuit of socialism is a recognized exemption for those in the “peace” movement. How can we ever have equitable redistribution of the wealth, unless someone is willing to strip the wealth off of rich people and with jackboots on their throats, relieve them of their wallets?
They’ve thrown everything they have at her and she’s still extremely popular, even loved.
She has that quality that inspires loyalty in voters and she will win if she gets the nomination.
We don’t want a candidate who makes everyone yawn.
Matthews tingle in his leg will turn into $h!tt!ng in his pants. I will send him some milk of magnesia just in case he stays full of $h!t. I suspect that clown won’t even be on TV in 2012.
Russert is being deified in absentia. He was a little more subtle about it, but he was as nasty as the rest of them when confronted with a conservative.
I can see him now, “but let’s look at what the New York Times says about ....”
Brit would be great, but would he even get the call?
However, Sarah has the gumption to stand up for herself and demand fairness in that kind of situation.
It is nice of him to finally admit that their role isn’t to report the news but to manipulate events.
Does that mean you believe McCain had what it takes?
