This week marked the 39th anniversary of the ratification of the 26th Amendment to the Constitution which lowered the voting age from 21 to 18 years of age.
At the time we wondered how long it would be until the Democrats nominated the right Piped Piper to lead them, and ultimately our nation, over a cliff.
When two of three voters aged 18 to 29 voted for Barack Obama in 2008 those of us who were older and wiser knew they were making their inevitable terrible mistake. They were like men and women running blindfolded through a dark basement which of course could only lead to the destruction we are witnessing today.
Today the 26% jobless rate for the youngest workers in our economy is at the highest level the Department of Labor has ever recorded since it started keeping track in 1947, and saying: We told you so, pales in our glowing frustrations.
Besides being unemployed directly because they believed Obamas empty Hope and Change mantra, our younger generation is having its futures snuffed out because they are the targets Obamacare. The young people will be forcibly signed up for healthcare they neither want nor need as a group. Nevertheless, they will be supporting the scheme with ever increasing tax loads.
Selling disaster
The provisions of Obamas disgraceful healthcare scheme are so good for young people that Democrats are planning to spend $125 million to sell its benefit to them.
Already the Congressional Budget Office is telling us our debt as a nation is ballooning toward a staggering 62% of our GDP, the highest percentage since immediately after World War II.
Over the past 40 years the rate has averaged just less than 37%, but is on track to be almost 90% by 2020 just in time...

He touches the internet and their heads will explode.
He never actually lied- no reporter EVER asked him if he was a socialist and the “fundamental change” he wanted was government control of everything.
The youth voters will learn nothing. They will remember nothing, 4 years is a lifetime to them.
They simply thought they were voting for Denzel. And when the commies/Hollywood/MSM tell them it’s the Republicans fault...they will vote accordingly.
And they’ll vote for him again believing he just needs 4 more years to straighten out the mess W made.....I always told my kids “Empty wagons make the most noise”...
Couldnt agree more. Not to mention the K-12 generation, who should be learning fast that Democrats are people who want to take away their cake and ice cream.
Anyone stupid enough to vote for him deserves no sympathy.
I agree about your "if".
Obama appears to be oriented toward scorched-earth goals, and reversing or amending them will be difficult by design.
(To wit- what if he gives citizenship to millions of illegal aliens? How do we get back trillions that he borrowed to pay political allies? etc.)
.
Didn’t some states have the voting age at 18 before the 26th ammendment?
The 26th Amendment allows for states to lower the voting age to 17 or even 16, if they so wish.
I would love to repeal the 26th amendment. While there are individual exceptions, most 18 year olds don’t follow the news in detail or know enough about candidates and issues to vote intelligently.
There’s something to be said for having certain minimal maturity and life experience before you are allowed to vote.
slow learners, but they’re catching on.
He did. No one in the media had what it took but Joe the Plumber did and the media had to report it then.
“The 26th Amendment allows for states to lower the voting age to 17 or even 16, if they so wish.”
No.
1. The right of citizens of the United States, who are eighteen years of age or older, to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of age.
2. The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.
actually they are catching on Fast!
I hang out at 2 different adult beverage establishments that have lots of 21-26 yearolds...
They ‘ve gone from loving him to calling him a F-ing A-H in 18months, That’s quick.
I don’t think it is age and following news that is the problem. 30, 40, and 50 year olds are equally as clueless about current events. As you mentioned, the problem is that most 18 year olds do not have is real world experience to make this type of decision. They are voting for a utopia.
In 2008, I was most distressed to see the voting so close among older voters. Anyone with decent level of common sense could see this train wreck coming, but too many suspended their use of common sense and experience and voted for the unicorns and rainbows.
I figured the old folks would save the day. Those that lived through the doldums of the 70s and had parents and grandparents of the depression and WWII age.
