Verizon announces 4G rollout
Verizon Website ^ | June 28, 2010 | Verizon

Posted on 06/28/2010 7:47:29 PM PDT by PugetSoundSoldier

Verizon Wireless will be the first company in the U.S. – and among the first in the world – to launch LTE with a sizeable footprint. We will launch our 4G LTE network in 25 to 30 markets late in 2010, covering approximately 100 million people; we’ll double that in 2012. And we plan to cover our entire existing 3G footprint with 4G LTE by the end of 2013.

Verizon Wireless plans to utilize our nationwide, contiguous 700 MHz spectrum to deploy 4G LTE. This spectrum covers the entire lower 48 states and Hawaii, and gives our customers the nationwide bandwidth and coverage they need, when and where they need it.

Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE network will be backward-compatible with our existing 3G network. That means the two networks will co-exist and services will be integrated between LTE and our 3G Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) Rev. A network. We will also support handover to existing mobile networks, thereby providing seamless coverage to Verizon Wireless subscribers right from the start.

Nice commercial / spam

Verizon is a P.O.S. company, I wouldn’t care if Verizon came out with a 4T or even 4Q, they can still F*!@() off

WOW! I hear Frank Sinatra singing “High Hopes” as I think about where the electricity will be coming from to run Verizon’s dream.

There aren’t going to be enough windmills, enough solar panels, enough mice running in the cage to power it all three years from now, and at the rate the anus orifice in the WH, and his wrecking crew are going, we aren’t going to be able to afford it anyway.

Verizon is the best wireless provider. AT&T sucks. I was on the phone with an iPhone user today and it dropped the call. Enough!

The inference is that you can pull your 5 gig in about 5 minutes. Then pony up big.

Clear is where it’s at with unlimited 4G.

But this is wireless internet, not cell service.

Clear is in about 45+ cities now and will be in 90 by the end of this year. The only downfall is if you live outside of the metropolitan areas, you probably wont get 4g service as it is run off of towers like cell phones, either owned byt CLEAR or leased.

-Shameless Plus goes here-

Just saying

Well good luck Verizon!

Now, please try to bill me correctly for more than one month in a row.

And tell your service reps to learn some English!

Sprint (and their partner ClearWire) are already rolling out a "different" 4G nationwide. It's WiMAX. You can get service that combines 4G (WiMax) and 3G (EVDO Rev A), although you need a dual-mode device.

The interesting part is that Sprint and Clearwire are not imposing limits on bandwidth if you are connected via 4G. The 5-gigabyte/month limit is still in effect for 3G connections.

I'm wondering if Verizon will do something similar.

Yeah, I had looked at Clear (back when it was ClearWire), but the coverage was way too spotty. That’s why I have high hopes for Verizon, especially when they claim the same coverage they have now for 3G - HUGE coverage everywhere.

My guess is you are completely correct. It's a "data only" network, rather than a mixed network, and will have higher bandwidth. They can do unlimited again for consumers...

I haven’t found a carrier yet that won’t rape you.

We’ve had em all, and for us, Verizon is the best so far for coverage and connectivity. We work from Chicago to about a 50 mile radius, and no one else comes close to our connectivity, and since its for business, we don’t mind the extra 50 bucks a month our bill carries.

But yea, they suck, just like everyone else. AT&T was totally friggin horrible for us, and they had more phantom charges every month, and if you didn’t mind wasting 4 hours every billing cycle trying to get hold of someone to correct them, you could save a few bucks.

Also, for us signal strength, I work alot in basements and stuff, and of the 3 carriers we tried over the years, none can compete with Verizon in this area.

Our 3g is unlimited, if they come out with 4g unlimited plan, we’ll surely have to go with that, our techs spend alot of time downloading stuff in the field and time = money.

Not being a shill for them, if I hear from other techs in the area through our business groups that “this carrier” or “that carrier” has gotten better, thats where I have to go.

I’m loyal to no one but our bottom line and productivity when it comes to stuff like that.
