Actor and film producer Kevin Costner has become an unlikely hero of the Gulf oil leak disaster. Costner has a company that produces machines that separate oil from water using a centrifuge system. BP has purchased 32 of the machines.

Three of the machines are expected to be deployed and working this weekend, with the rest in operation within the next sixty days. The machines, built by Costner's company Ocean Therapy Inc, are designed to purify two hundred thousand gallons of water each day of operation. Costner spent seventeen years and twenty million dollars of his own money developing the water purification machines.

At least Costner has something to offer that may help instead of just sitting at his keyboard and bitching.

I'm skeptical. I can't find any evidence of this machine being used for anything other than a marketing prototype.

Who has purchased from this company in the past?

Has this miracle machine been successfully used?

Can anyone provide links other than the "Ocean Therapy Solutions" website?

I suspect that:

1) BP has been coerced into purchasing these machines and

2) Kevin Costner has a lot more to gain from this than any of the folks in LA, MS, FL or AL.

The story about the Taiwan ship made it to our local news here in Richmond VA. Haven’t heard a word on national news about it, tho. No surprise there.

Oh...a cause he believes in. He’s making a difference. He’s giving something back. We’re all moving forward because of a Hollywood nitwit.

You may very well be correct, I certainly hope not though. The people you mentioned need all of the help they can get...it certainly isn't coming from obama.

Yes that is good enough especially considering that the sea floor leaks oil all of the time so that tells me nature can handle small amounts of oil on her own.

Costner’s device is basically a Cream separator, albeit a rather large one. No real new technology here.

One Scientist type on one of the shows I regularly listen to (can't remember which one at the moment), said that Natural Seepage in Gulf of Mexico is equivalent to 2 Exxon Valdez a YEAR.

At the start of the crisis, it was reported that Costner’s brother was a scientist who invented these machines, and Kevin put up his own money as financing. Hope these contraptions work.

Costner said he was ready to go on May 4th. I’ll give you one guess why it’s taking so long to deploy his machines. Here’s a hint; it took BP six days to even reply to his offer.

The book was far far better.

I’ve also heard the EPA delayed it because it was only 99% efficient. They didn’t like that 1% being put back in the ocean.

I liked “Waterworld.” I am not kidding. I guess I am the only one.
I remember liking “the Postman” too.

Nah, you're not the only one. I LOVED Dennis Hopper's character in Waterworld! But I preferred the book "Postman", to the movie, though I enjoyed the movie.

I also like Waterworld. I liked The Postman, as well..

My taste is a little more twisted. Did anyone prefer "Mr. Brooks?"
