They either have to reduce the number of players or eliminate the offside rule. The current game is pretty boring. The defense is too strong. Way too strong.
Correct. Davies would have buried at least one of those one-on-one chances. Not having him and not having a 100% healthy Gooch killed us this time around.
That’s what makes a 0-0 game so entertaining.
And that is at the foot of the US Soccer Association.
And I think with the lack of recent success of our U-17 and U-20 teams, I see a tough road to qualifying for 2014. Mexico is going to dominate for the next few years, where we had pulled close to even with them.
It is if you're not a fan of the nuances of the game. I was that way before my sons started playing but now I'm a rabid fan.
Over the past 13 years of my sons playing I've developed a respect for the athleticism and skill of the guys that are out there for 45 minutes at a time.
A soccer game is never over 'til it's over. That's the beauty of the game.
There are some magnificent teams in the world and their skill amazes me. Spain, Brazil and Argentina, to name a few. Those guys seem to have a sixth sense of where their teammates are and their passing is amazing.
The US team was very fit. Skill levels were abysmal for a World Cup level team. They really ought to cut a team from our World Cup qualifying group and hand it out to Africa.
Don’t forget lots of rules with six officials on the field throwing a flag at every opportunity.
It was a clear penalty. If you take a player down on a scoring opportunity in the box without touching the ball you’ll see a penalty given 99% of the time.
If you mean that then please show Altidore some grace.
We absolutely missed Charlie Davies, he would have made a huge difference.
And I know people think the US did really good to reach the final 16.
But when you think of it, we only made it because of Green’s howler. We were lucky to tie an average Slovenia team, and we barely beat a very mediocre Algeria team, who didn’t even score a goal the entire tournament.
So I really don’t see it as that big of an improvement over 2006 at all.
This one scared my 5-years-old
Couple more if you don’t mind...
(1) How many players on USA team are American citizens? Seems like they are from elsewhere, like out baseball players. (admitting to a little profiling here)
(2) It seems to be the Ghanans were in better physical shape, run all day and night, but USA kept dragging. Agree?
Bobby Hill: Why do you hate what you don't understand?
Hank Hill: I don't hate you Bobby!
Bobby Hill: I was talking about soccer.
Hank Hill: Oh yeah, I hate soccer.
Okay, on to the serious answer. Nothing is more boring than a sport you don't care about. I discovered this when a guy I worked with was an avid golfer. On one occasion, I finally said, "I'm sorry. I have to kill you now."
So we have the sports media telling us we will BY GOD love soccer and most of us don't care and just want to know what trouble Mike Vick got in this week and we go to Fox Sports and there are all these columns showing people blowing horns and talking about the Fun Republic of Chuckles beating Weganda in the fourth triset of the monkey fur bracket and they're only two shillings out of seventh place.
I have nothing but the highest respect for soccer athletes, and their lower body & cardio physical fitness. The ability to pass cleanly is hard to attain, and is critical, as Ghana proved against Team USA today.
However, that doesn't make soccer a fun game to watch. They have to do something different to make those skills pay off into scores more often.
What? BS. If you want the attack to be stronger just send more players forward. The fact that teams like to play with strong defenses, keeping two or three extra players back, has nothing to do with the rules. It’s a decision on the teams’ part.
Perhaps. I think the USA was emotionally drained after the last minute win over Algeria.
I think the coach made a mistake starting Clark instead of Edu. I personally think he should have started the same guys that were in at the last of the Algeria game. They were on a high.
Findlay did not show me anything the entire tournament. Buddle would have been a better choice, IMHO.
All of them are citizens. Many of them are first generation but they are all Americans. I watched Gooch, Clint, Holder, Clark and more play in college.
Notice Bradley made the same subs for the same players for the same reasons all tournament long?
Oh why did Charlie Davies have to be so stupid and violate his frickin’ curfew and get into that accident. Fool! We really needed him.
