Here's a pic of the beast in question...
...you can see the feral cruelty in its eyes. It even looks like it's killed before. Thank goodness we have fine officers like Trooper Houston to protect us.
Trooper Houston’s mother must be so proud of him.
If she isn't, somebody should taze her.
I will happily use the broad brush. The tales are almost daily. It is a good thing to have a dog in your yard in case the police come to your door to ask a question or raid the wrong address. That gives the officers something to shoot to satisfy their apparent union contract perks so they don’t have to shoot your wife or child. We get cop-shoots-pet pretty often in my own small town. When those dogs are chained up it makes the situation pretty clear.
You’re very funny. You made my night.
In clear situations, I agree. However the tales are nearly daily because we have worldwide access to news stories which highlight such incidents. It is truly sad that dogs are being trained to guard the bad guys and I surely know that abuses happen, but I don’t think it characterizes cops as a group and I will happily defend them against that broad brush. (And, no, I have no personal connection with any cop to color my judgment.) Cops try to do the best job they can under incredible pressure. Mistakes will be made. There are undoubtedly some sadists but it is not fair to tar the entire law enforcement class based on these incidents.
Yes; I spell it out here.
I would debate the legitimacy of such a stance.
I think this is a training issue with regards to law enforcement. Cops enter homes and immediately neutralize anything moving towards them, including animals large and small.
It's still no excuse:
RULE #4 -- ALWAYS BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND ITS SURROUNDINGS.
Just wait until the SWAT teams start shooting toddlers who "aggressively come running" at them.
I want to see the defense put forth for them then.
>But there is no justifying the killing of a kitten. And a man who do that deserves to be mocked and scorned.
Sometimes there is. I’ve had to put down a kitten who was dying because of a spider-bite; and another that had its spine broken.
That’s a great suggestion. If there were some way to make the judge and police answerable for the damage done under false warrants, innocents, including pet dogs, could be much safer.
I don’t even know what to say. On this thread, we are talking about a cop shooting a 5 month old kitten. That’s a far cry from humanely putting down an animal that is sick or dying. Hopefully, you realize that.

Yes, I know. The logic/programmer part of me is a little sensitized to broad-brush statements right now.
I got into an argument about people at border-crossing stations, and well, I’m pissed off that people can hold the idea “they’re foreigners and have essentially NO rights” that kept getting shoved in my face... especially when things like the Fourth Amendment are binding on the State against ANYONE foreign or not.
That was a nicely written article Shark : )
I understand your frustration, but I’m not broad brushing. I’m talking about one sorry cop and his senseless act. Just like this morning when a guy is weaving in and out of traffic, speeding, and honking his horn. Everyone in front of him is slowing down. Why, there is a family of geese on the road. But this jackass doesn’t stop. No, he just runs them over. How self-centered and cruel and totally lacking in any kind of humanity must you be to do something like that. Not broad brushing...pointing my finger at the cop in this story and the driver of the car this morning...both of them are sorry excuses for human beings and they deserve nothing but contempt and scorn. Rant off. (Thank’s for listening)

Thank you!
Not a problem.
It is nice that the State has tried to teach children that the armed agents are our friend, and that they are in the right no matter what they do. It is definitely in evidence on all of these threads. FReepers who either are LEOs or those who believe that what Chuck Schumer manages to pass (that wouldnt withstand scrutiny of the Founders) but Carter or Clinton (or even the Bush appointed traitors!) appointed judges ala Kagan decide that the interest of the State must trump the idea that Founding documents must be obeyed, have taken sides.
The police arent our friends. They will follow the order to kill those who arent willing to support the .gov. They would justify running over the protester in Tiananmen Square on the basis that he constituted a threat. No. Police arent our friends. They believe that authority must be respected, even if authority is wrong. They point to the legal system as protection from abusive police practices, even if the police are agents of that very same system!
Police are the Redcoats of old. And they must be eliminated from US society. Criminals can be dealt with in a manner that discourages others that think of committing crimes. The legal system that police represent lets those criminals go, in order to gain more power. Think about it.
