Hi Swordmaker,

> ... PING! I suggest reading the article and ignoring the TROLLS. DO NOT RESPOND TO ANY TROLLISH BEHAVIOR IN THE THREAD. THERE IS A LOT OF IT ALREADY. ... let them have their fun talking among themselves.

I thank you for your work maintaining the Apple Ping List, and bringing articles of interest to those of us who own and/or use Apple products. I do get good info from the threads and appreciate your diligence.

I'm sure it's extremely difficult to toe the line you wrote above, about not responding to trollish behavior.

I would be interested to find out (if such a survey were possible, with honest answers) how many, or at least which, of the posters on the Apple threads actually own or use Apple products.

I have a Ford F-150 pickup. If I got on a Chevy forum, I might have a few things to add (I had a couple of Chevy trucks in years past), but if I got on a Mercedes forum, I really ought to sit back and just read, or perhaps ask polite questions.

Overall, there were some useful exchanges in this thread, including a couple of good thoughtful arguments. But all the bickering and fighting really does no one any good. Who said what about whom is just garbage, regardless, and embarrassing to all.

My personal desire would be that folks who don't own or use Apple (or Microsoft) products be invited to the respective threads as readers, or to post polite questions, and those who come only to start fights be asked to leave. Sort of like the religion threads, or the caucuses. I realize that opens up a world of sarcastic derision along the lines of, "See, the Apple (or Microsoft) users really ARE a religion", but you know what? It would almost be worth it, for some peace and quiet to discuss the actual article and related topics like civilized beings.

But then, I'm old-fashioned, and have this quaint notion that a conservative forum might encourage good manners. Silly me. :)

Anyway, carry on. Your efforts are appreciated.

Of course, I still get to comment on pretty much every thread, because I own and use products from just about every major vendor out there... :)

Except BeOS. Don't have any BeOS systems. I have a copy of the OS from about 5 years ago, but never got around to installing it.

Oh well.... I guess I'm a reader on the BeOS threads.

So we agree that OS X has software to block trojans. All you are doing is arguing over the industry accepted name of such software. Sure it may be a crappy and limited version of anti-virus software but that's what it is.,p> Yes, for-q-clinton, I WILL agree that Apple's OSX has a Operating System level function on it that is designed to block the downloading and installation of Trojans horse programs, it is NOT designed to do anything more than that.

I will NOT, however, agree to call it "Anti-Virus software" as you and PugetSoundSoldier have been insisting on mischaracterizing it on multiple threads, because it is NOT. It is not an all encompassing, do everything, bloated, multi-function anti-malware package that most people think of when they hear "anti-virus." That is over generalizing what it does and definitely makes people confused about what they are protected against. You and he do it deliberately.

By your insistence on that generic term you engender that very sense of immunity you claim you think Mac users believe in.

Apple is quite explicit about what the module does.

And, for-q-clinton, the various anti-malware vendors such as "Ad-aware" and the makers of "Spybot Search and Destroy" and other spyware detectors DO NOT call their wares "Anti-Virus Software." They certainly make a careful distinction from anti-virus software vendors' products. They call their products by the much more general term of "anti-malware." I will grant you that various anti-virus software publishers are expanding the coverage of their products to include more Trojans and spyware and adware that they did not cover before, but even they recognized the various subsets and distinctions between the types of malware in the wild.

Says the man who just got through calling me a vile liar, and has consistently done so...

I called you "vile," which means "extremely unpleasant," not a "vile liar." And you are a "liar." But the concepts are separate. The two do not go together.

You are vile because of the way you attacked RachelFaith with ad hominem slurs and insults, most of which were untrue. You offended me, along with many others, by violating the netiquette and the civility of FreeRepublic with your open hostility and language in your vile response to RachelFaith. It showed you are no gentleman and are without honor. Instead of civilly responding to her accusation, you escalated beyond reason. I was not brought up to treat women the way you treated RachelFaith. I'm a conservative, not a Liberal, I will not standby while someone else does... especially when I agree that she was right about your "facts."

I'm a conservative and truth matters to me. It should matter to all conservatives. It should matter to you. You are a liar because of the way you exaggerate and present non-facts as though they were facts—and mis-represent your evidence—and then belittle those who dare to criticize your evidence. You also refuse to recant when you have been proved to be wrong on those non-facts and your evidence has been shown to mis-represented... and repeat the same things again and again after they've been refuted. You refuse to acknowledge proof that refutes your evidence, and then deny saying things, even in the face of direct citation of your very words... continuing and repeating the offending mis-statements of facts or misrepresentations, and re-linking to the already discredited "evidence."

Apologize to RachelFaith and I will revise my opinion of your character as "vile," Recant the untruthful claims you have presented—withdraw them—and I will withdraw the characterization of your honesty. Simple as that. You and I have had civil discourse in the past. We can again.

Stop using Ad Hominems, such as "Macolytes," "Macbots," and "kneeling" or "worshipping in front of Steve Jobs," or any of the denigrating, nasty ways of belittling Mac/Apple users that you and other anti-Apple posters use when addressing Apple/Mac/iPhone users and you and I can get along fine. Again, simple as that.

When you post information you believe is of value to Apple Mac/iPhone/iPad users on FreeRepublic and want to reach them, ping me to it. I WILL ping the list, which now has more than 480 members. Don't leave me and them to find it late. I have a life outside of FreeRepublic and am not here 24/7 to catch everything by chance. If you want people to know... that's the best way to do it.

Don't criticize me for participating... This is not your personal thread. It's an open forum. Don't criticize me for correcting false or mis-leading information. I WILL do that.

You have accused me of bringing my "cronies" along with me. I have pinged the people you have been accusing and offending... who are interested. Not cronies. If that were the case, I could bring far more than 480 freepers with me to each and every post. I don't.

Finally, I assure you I have had many posts, public (which I am sure you have seen and ignored)—and many, many more private—condemning your, and your crony's activities and behavior, from the ping list and non-ping list Freepers in the past week, thanking and praising me for keeping the Mac/Apple list, my activities in keeping people updated and informed of things involving the products they use and like, and PUTTING UP WITH YOU and others like you.

Many of them have told me they are NOT interested in your remedial lessons on how bad Apple/iPhones/Macs are. Some have publicly told you. You are far outnumbered.

Swordmaker => thanks again for maintaining this ping list and for putting up with those who would abuse it.

Thanks, Locomotive Breath...

Thanks, Dayglored. I appreciate it. For a short period of time, when the admin mods were backing me... and actually would give time outs and some out right banishments to the trolls, we had such a paradise in Mac Apple threads. But somehow, someone got put in charge who no longer will do any moderation at all. Who ever the Admin Mod is allows a free-for-all melée to take place and actually threatens those who hit the abuse button. I know. It happened to me.

It is sad, but it has made the overall tone of FreeRepublic worse.

I have decided that I will make that warning every so often when I ping the list. If that is not effective, I will start including specific names of WHO not to respond to... if that gets me banned, so be it.

The attacks and charges and names slung forth from Rachel first. As I’ve told you many times, I only give back what I’m hit with.

But why would I care what you think of me, given your penchant to twist my words and redefine terms just to try to prove your point?

I’m out of this thread; Rachel, if you want to bury the hatchet, send a mail. Same goes for you, Swordmaker.

You Pug, may “be out of this thread”. Whatever. I never joined it. Even though you baited me like 15 some replies, this is my first jump into it. And my last since everything I might have said has been said.

The only LMAO I must do, simply MUST do, is the post from Sword where he clearly shows you don’t even know the difference between bits and bytes. What’s that? As basic PC lingo as it gets? THAT WAS FUNNY.

As for burying the hatchet? Do you still think the security, safety and risk elements between PC and Mac AND between Droid and iPhone are equal? If so, no chance of buying anything. I’d desecrate the grave before letting that lie stand.

If, you recant or hell, even outright LIE and claim you NEVER said, implied or would ever think to say such, sure.

You post the straight out fact, on any thread and ping me, where you say that “Apple products in general have far greater security and are less risky than their competition”, that’s all I have ever had issue with.

I won’t hold my breath and I am sure you will be posting another FUD soon.
