It's also a not that uncommon first name for black males - Rashad McCants played for the Kings, Rashad Evans is an MMA champion. Since Rashad Valmont is from the Virgin Islands I'd be willing to bet he's black and not necessarily Muslim.
But don't let any of that get in the way of your conspiracies.

Army Reserve spokeswoman Maj. Lenora Hutchinson also declined to discuss the motive for the shooting. So why are they still keeping the motive hush hush? Reading on to this statement may be the answer:
Mercado and Valmont were assigned to the Army Medical Department Professional Management Command.
This could be why motive and murder's name is/was being withheld. Visions of Ft. Hood and Hasan also being in the Army Medical Department, huh...

What's interesting about this is the name so much, but the fact that they've charged Art. 118, and CID has recommend premeditation specification, which would make him death penalty eligible if found guilty. That means they believe they've already uncovered enough evidence to establish intent, but as of yet, no motivation has leaked to the press. It's not entirely unheard of, but still a little unusual.
In any event, it will all come out in the Art. 32 hearing in a few weeks to months.

I used to go to Ft Gillam for drill from time-to-time. I hadn’t even heard about this shooting.

Muslim names are very common among US blacks who are actually not Muslims but thought they were sticking it to the Man by giving their kid an Arab name. This guy was from the Virgin Islands, however, so he may actually have been Muslim.
That said, I think this is probably a personal dispute.

Will someone, JUST FOR ONCE, post an enriching, edifying and moving story about Islam?
There must be something happening in the Muslim world that gives the West hope that the two can coexist?
Can any of you wise congresscritters give me an answer?
