A great deal of the internet is populated by C2PO wanna bees. If you ever watched a Star Wars movie (and who hasnt) you know the shiny gold robot named C3PO whose purpose is etiquette and protocol. The internet has developed its own system of etiquette and protocol. One of these is an abhorrence of what is referred to as link whoring which is defined as encouraging people to click on your website. According to this protocol the internet virgin is supposed to sit demurely on the sidelines, knees tightly together, until she is spotted by a search engine like Google.
This phenomenon was one I recently experienced at one of my favorite sites, FreeRepublic.

I sure hope that you have some kind of skills because reading comprehension is not counted among them. Kind of funny that you fancy yourself a writer and you appear to read on a inner city gangbanger level. Your sense of right and wrong seem to be on the same level.
I guess if all you can do is flog your POS blog on a successful discussion forum then you are pretty pathetic.
It was in the script..."
Now I'm not defending George Lucas, but it is possible that after the kid went to Jedi U, the droid was re-programmed for different purposes by the next owner.
Two reasons I can think of. One: he has a right to his Copyright just like any other writer.
Two: Free Republic doesn't allow certain types of content to be shown mostly video. So to see this content one must leave FR or NOT see it at all.
Oh and I don't think he has forced anyone to go anywhere to read his blog. One can choose not to click the link. You are free not to read it.
I knew when I posted that I was way outclassed. Bravo!!!!

LOL. If that was intentional, well done. If not, oh bitter irony...
Simply because you wrote something doesn't mean you have taken the legal measures to copyright it. According to fair use you don't own the words no matter how you string them together.

FR typically doesn't allow porn, racist or excessively violent videos. If that is what he has on his blog then he shouldn't be flogging it here.
If you are condoning blog pimping then you are the type of person who says nothing about petty theft because "it was just a magazine".
Of course I want to share my thoughts with people. Thats why this site exists, thats why you contribute by posting. Its pretty much why everyone who is not lurking is here. I share my thoughts more fully on my website so thats why I link. And because I dont want to waste Jims valuable electrons AND because I want to get people to my website, I excerpt. Sort of the same reason the LA Times and the Washington Post sued Jim.
Finally, if people dont think my excerpt is interesting, they wont click on the link. Just like I dont click on every link at FR, Instapundit or DRUDGE. Which, by the way, are full of excerpts with links to the full article.
What I find puzzling is the insistence that I post in full but other, bigger bloggers can be linked to. Here is part of my little essay that explains my postion.
I find it ironic that FreeRepublic , which started at a time when the alternative media was in its infancy, should now be the home of people who are trying to enforce a protocol that actually stifles the alternatives that are springing up around the internet. It should be encouraging them.
I really don't understand this suggestion that I am "diverting traffic." What is that all about? When I go to FR and see something that I want to read in full, I click on the link that opens another tab (I use Windows XP and Internet Explorer), look at it and am back to FR with the click of a mouse. I can have FR, Malkin, Drudge, Instapundit, ACE, IAMO, Etc. up all at once. How in the world do you divert traffic in the internet today? Put up a bunch of orange cones with a sign saying do not enter?
I honestly do not understand your point.
Regards.
And, again, we are tricked into visiting someone’s personal web page, blog, etc.......
There is no "can" or "can't".
These "bigger bloggers" aren't posting here.
If they were, they would get spanked for needless excerpting too.
Little weenie bloggers pimping their own blogs are the problem.
If getting content seen was your goal, you would post it here.
Don't feed me that crap about saving FR's electrons either.
Go ahead, click on the link. You know you want to. You know you want to know what I said about you. Go ahead. No one will know what your do in the privacy of your own basement. Go on, just one little click.
Just . One . Little Click.
Then I gotcha and youll be hooked.
Oh no! . I warned you!
moneyrunner, why don't you go away and we will let you know if we miss you?
Just for my information, what's "personal" about my blog? I mean in ways that Instapundit isn't? Do I talk about myself a lot? Tell you about my day? What color is my hair?
You are one seriously deluded little monkey boy.
I said I wouldn’t click on your POS blog and I won’t.
Unlike you I have integrity.
Plus as a writer you are seriously lacking as is apparent from your excerpt. Comparing your self to successful people doesn’t make you one of them. It just makes you a peeping tom looking in the window of the party to which you will never be invited or welcome.
Your response made me laugh.
Regards
