Tommy Sowers (D) has surged onto the political scene in Missouris 8th Congressional District, garnering national press and media in his challenge of Jo Ann Emerson (R). The landscape of this district is largely a rural district with its largest city of Cape Girardeau of only approximately 37,000 people. It encompasses all or parts of 28 counties, and it is the 11th poorest congressional district in the United States.
Before I discuss why I believe Mr. Sowers will lose, Tommy Sowers has a lot of things on his side: Hes young, an Iraqi war veteran (Green Beret and Army Ranger), and hes got lots of money. Jo Ann hasnt had a challenger with money in her career as an incumbent, and the results have shown that. She has won her reelections by margins of: 63-35, 69-30, 72-27, 72-27, 72-26, and 71-26.

Can’t understand why a guy like that would be a Democrat.
Got that right.
To get on the ballot.
Southeast Missouri has always been very conservative; it’s the area where Limbaugh was born and raised. I don’t think Emerson will break a sweat in getting reelected.
“To get on the ballot.”

So we can count on him to move strongly to the right once elected? /s
I wonder how come that never happens.....
I agree. Good point about Limbaugh. I forget that he is from down there at times. He attended (didn’t finish I believe) SEMO in Cape Girardeau.
Never said that
When I was down that way a year or so back, outside Cape there was a gigantic field with white crosses honoring those that were murdered by abortion.
Didn’t say you did.
A general comment.
A Democrat? Not in this district, not in this political climate.
I don’t care if the guy IS a vet.
