The Moth in the White House
Leibowitz's Canticle ^ | June 5, 2010 | Leibowitz

Posted on 06/05/2010 12:56:34 PM PDT by Bob Leibowitz

No one knows why moths circle a flame so intently that they will sacrifice themselves on its pillar of light. Learned scientists offer theories. Perhaps the flame is a proxy for the moon's navigational beacon. Maybe burning gasses emit an odor mimicking female moth pheromones. While we can guess that the underlying motivation may be beneficial in other circumstances, the immediate effect is obvious as moths repeatedly convert from a solid to a gas.

So it seems with Barack Obama. The President has an apparently insatiable need to fly to the flame, a driving level of egocentricity seldom seen outside clinics and textbooks. Just as he consumes attention, so is he consumed by it. Every event, every action is about or by him. In his universe, every crisis is an opportunity and criticism always personal. His physics are zero-sum. He can only move ahead by pushing his enablers behind (Rev. Wright, Grandma, Bill Ayers), only rise by denigrating others (Wall Street, doctors, insurors, oil companies, the British, Israelis, Karzai, the list seems endless). All the while, there can no presidential praise that doesn't reflect amply on himself.

http://www.moonbattery.com/obama-kissing-self.jpgIn his aggrandizement, whether in his two books extolling his story, in the promises made in his campaigns, the speeches supporting ObamaCare,or the putdowns in the press room, he has oversold his virtues, neglected entirely his vices and been deaf, blind and mute to the contributions and concerns of others.

He has positioned voters for the most intense episode of buyers' remorse since the disillusionment with LBJ two generations ago.

As even leftist commentators now remark on his supposed coolness, his ability to remain aloof, his inability to relate, and begin to grasp that it really is all about him, we should be prepared to pay the price for electing as president an actor for whom the opening applause was the entire play; a matinee idol for whom performing is only something to endure until the next opportunity for audience adulation.

Mr. Obama gives no indication of appreciating the role, the business, the responsibilities of Chief Executive, the ability and need to organize, motivate and manage an administration of government. He revels instead in the trappings and honoraria of the position, the moments for pontification, the opportunities for dicta.

Mr. Obama suffers from an addictive personality. Today, he enjoys the flame, I think too much, while ignoring the heat.

Whether cigarettes, cocaine or applause, his addictions need to be controlled.

A mere actor on the stage, whose producers, screenwriters, and directors mistake the role he is to play as that of dictator, not leader. Thus, his acting suffers from any anchor in the reality of everyday people or in the Constitution he is sworn to uphold.

To me,...Obama seems sort of like Jack Nicholson's character in "A Few Good Men". Certainly not from the "toughness" side,...but more to the personality type that totally believes that because of who he is,...he's completely ABOVE THE LAW.

And like Tom Cruise's character duely noted in the film....I too think he WANTS to admit to us that he can do whatever he wants with impunity. He WANTS to yell at us and tell us HE IS ABOVE THE LAW. ...And there seems to be only a thin veil between the civil Obama and the man described above. All it will take is just a little more pressure to push him over the edge before he outright tells us EXACTLY who he really is, and then dares us to do anything about it.

Mothman more likely. Or, the kind of moth that eats wool. He sure is trying to eat away at America’s warp & woof.

Good analysis. I think Obama’s extreme addiction/dysfunction sometimes gets lost in the shuffle of his plethora of faults and problems. He’s addictive dysfunctional the way water is wet, though. The WH is not a good place for that kind of pathology.

He is an egomaniac, there’s no question about that. He wants all of the wrong things for likely the wrong reasons. But I don’t think he necessarily pushes his enablers aside. I think they are, except for maybe Rev. Wright, being enabled by him now instead.

Ayers and his wife were involved with the flotilla that was in the incident with Israel last week. Van Jones may not be officially in the administration, but he is not forgotten on the green energy front. And there are many more both in the administration and without doing things that I’m not sure Obama has direct knowledge of but lets them do what they please. They don’t have to have an official title to get what they want done.

The corruption is astounding, like nothing I’ve ever seen. So while Obama is out there on the stage making everything about him, his cronies are in the background doing the damage. It’s derelict at best and quite dangerous for both us and the rest of the world.

OBOWzo is a veritable Mulligan Stew of psychological pathologies. Even a shrink as bright at Charles Krauthammer has trouble finding enough words to adequately describe what’s going on in the guy’s head.

My take is that he is a rare form of idiot savant whose “gift” is an urge to engage in mindless and continual eloqution and public oratory. His egocentrism and narcissism — probably resulting from having been abandoned first by his father then his mother — found in ALL politicians has reached a far higher level in him than in others and requires him to be “on” and the center of attention at all times.
(Even MSNBC leftist talker Ed Shultz, fresh from a visit to the White House, reported that Obama has turned the place into a shrine to – surprise – OBAMA, with portraits of his first year – and hopefully, his LAST full year – in office EVERYWHERE! Can you say “egomaniac?”)

Couple that with the problem described by microbiologist P.B. Medawar that “(…) the spread of secondary and latterly tertiary education has created a large population of people, often with well-developed literary and scholarly tastes, who have been educated far beyond their capacity to undertake analytical thought” and you have a formula for the creature known as Obama.

He is as lacking in the ability to think critically as are the voters who put him in office and who now bear full responsibility for the possibly irreparable damage now being done to this country by Obama and his minions.

The bigger problem – as pointed out by another Freeper – is that when the veneration by his former devotees fades and, like Hitler in his Berlin bunker, he begins to feel that they are not intelligent enough to appreciate his “brilliance,” he could become an even more dangerous and destructive creature than he is now.

Unfortunately, there’s no sign that self-denial or -control are within his skill set.
