Is there anything a journalist cannot or will not twist to bring the topic back to how life would be so much better if only not for that awful George W. Bush? On Tuesday's CBS Evening News, with the help of the Washington Post's Sally Quinn, Sharyl Attkisson managed to blame news, that Al and Tipper Gore are separating, on how they never got over being denied the presidency despite winning the popular vote in 2000. If only Bush hadn't taken it from them.
Attkisson recalled it's been ten years since that oddly public passionate kiss at the Democratic convention. That was followed by Gore winning the popular vote for President but losing the electoral vote. Family friend Sally Quinn says that may have done the marriage irreparable harm.
Viewers then head from Quinn, who's married former Post Executive Editor Ben Bradlee and is now titular overseer of the paper's On Faith blog: He obviously suffered a lot and still is suffering. He'll never get over that and neither will she. (jpg of screen shot of Quinn)
Attkisson cheekily began her story: While Al Gore was out fighting global warming, his marriage to Tipper was apparently cooling.
On ABC's World News, Claire Shipman offered a simpler explanation, sans the political grudges: The Gores have told friends they've simply grown apart. Tipper embracing the perks of a post-political life like grandchildren and travel. The former Vice President relishing his role as an award-winning environmental activist and not eager to slow down. _________________________________________________________

Oh the huge-manatees...
The ‘Bush stole the 2000 election and Al never got over it’ line, is about the lamest excuse for something since ‘my dog ate the homework’.
Even the left has to find some of this tripe too rich for their taste.
Any photoshoppers out there who can change this to the Bush/Rove divorce machine? They've taken out Edwards and now Gore.
old news
((Tipper wanted a divorce so she would have to stop changing his diapers!!))
Sally Quinn is delusional and should report back to the Happy Farm at once!
Think about this...
Goreball warming is losing it’s umph. Gore sees his financial stake shrinking, and wants to protect his family’s assets.
So he says to Tipper, hey, break up with me and let’s go through a divorce. I’ll give you a healthy settlement more than half our holdings, and you not being married to me will not be subject to having funds vaporize.
We can get back together later.
At forty years, what’s the point of getting divorced? It means you’re sixty plus years old. You’ve got so much in common, it’s just about pointless. Every family holiday you’re going to spend with the ex anyway.
I don’t think we’re seeing the whole picture here.
LOL, heh, heh, heh... I like it. Good one.
More proof that Liberals are Idiots. Blaming Bush for the Gore split is insanity
If Al Gore wasn’t hugging trees, and instead hugging his wife....they would still be together.
I wouldn't be surprised if good assets were divided in her favor while he dumps the loser assets.....then they magically reconcile....
((Although maybe Tipper is from the Ivana Trump school of - "Don't get mad....get everything!" ;))
That last one works for me too. Nice... har.
As I noted in a previous post, the “real” story behind the Al-Tipper breakup will soon emerge. “Grown apart” is the oldest (and most contrived) excuse in the book. There are plenty of power couples who stay together for convenience, or to simply avoid the negative publicity that comes with a messy divorce.
Within a week or so, the National Enquirer (or some other tabloid) will have the name and photos of Al’s new girlfriend. The former VP went “Hollywood” in a big, big way, and there are plenty of women out there who threw themselves at him. I’m guessing that Gore gave in to the temptation and Tipper found out.
One more thing: this is not the first time that Al has been accused of infidelity. During his presidential run a decade ago, a Nashville-area minister came forward with details on Al’s alleged extra-curricular activities. The minister (who was interviewed by talk show host Phil Valentine) is a former biker. According to the pastor, Gore partied with his motorcycle gang while supposedly working on a story for the Nashville Tennessean (a job arranged by Gore’s father).
Gore reportedly spent several days hanging out with the bikers and slept with a couple of the girls associated with the gang. As you can imagine, this story got absolutely no traction with the MSM. And, his same pals in the media are trying to put the best possible face on Gore’s split with his wife. You may recall that the liberal media tried the same tactic with John Edwards until the Enquirer shamed them into actually covering the story. The same thing will happen this time around.
I do think there is a good chance this will take place, as you have stated. I did try to think outside the box for something else that might be lurking out there, even if somewhat of a long shot. Your comments were reasoned and I appreciate your views on the situation.
Bush 43, is there anything he didn’t do?
Rove you magnificent bastard!
She is a big-time green activist and since the split I would assume she is looking for a powerful man.
Enter "the sky is falling" poster boy, Al Gore - allegedly from Tennessee, despite being born and raised in a DC hotel.
He's playing around... or she is. Given her fake persona vs. her under-reported dragon woman reality, I doubt it is her.
