Today's kids are more sophisticated and knowledgeable --- but they're certainly not as cute

My friend Margaret Baxter recently took in an exchange student from Germany. The arrival of this exotic visitor enthralled Margaret's children, particularly the littlest, Caroline. Caroline is 5.

Early the next morning, Caroline bounded into the young woman's bedroom and woke her with an urgent question:

"Do they have dogs on your planet?"

They have a different sort of knowledge, certainly not more.

“They have a different sort of knowledge, certainly not more.”

Amen, that is often forgotten and never even known by most in the first place. We tend to think that people in the past were very ignorant when in reality they had a knowledge appropriate to the time. Most of us know very little about the things those people did know. We may be about to see the day when we will need some of that old knowledge, many if not most of our current problems are traceable to the abandonment of the understanding of human nature that the founding fathers had in such abundance over 200 years ago. If Washington and Jefferson could hear the babble going on in the nation’s capital they would surely think they were listening in on an insane asylum. Never would they believe that the government had been entrusted to such bizarre creatures as Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Frank or even McCain and some of his rino friends.

The kids I’ve watched grow up with my grandson aren’t even aware of what they don’t know. Hard times are coming and basic survival skills are lacking in the current generation.

1 more reason why I’m never having kids. Life just keeps getting more dreary.
