Wait, does this mean cut and cap is a failure?
To: MarkeyD

And it’s no where near what the bad spills have been, but the media would make you think it’s the end of the world. It’s not..... The earth will cope.

For those of us who don't want to watch a video, WHAT'S over?
God, I hate threads like this.

So it’s over, or it continues?
One condition would seem to preclude the other.

I haven’t looked at Zerohedge or the video but it is a great puzzlement that the engineers so severely misjudged the ability of the sheer to cut the riser and drill pipe. Mystifying. This part of the operation should have been routine and all the numbers (strengths, forces) were well known.

What I posted isnt a video, just a report, and I watched the stoppage and the ROV getting returned to the ship.

Is that a reliable source? It doesn't look like it to me. One of the comments referenced BP as saying this was the beginning of a three-day effort. I'm going to try to confirm that.

I remember when Ray Nagin called New Orleans—chocolate city. Maybe now we can just refer to the Gulf of Mexico as the Molasses Sea.

The last thing I saw from the ROV feed was the big yellow crimping arm slowly retreating into the darkness and distance...then the oil gusher coming into view from underneath...then a whole lot of nothing...then they cut the feed. Which meant after the crimping arm had that pipe in its grip for two hours off and on, they opened it and pulled it off, and then pulled the camera ROV back to the surface. So something either went wrong, or they thought it was going to go wrong.

Cut and cap? How could they be giving up on that so soon? They just started trying.

Someone further down in the thread says they won’t finishing cutting the pipe for the next attempted cap for 3 days. So maybe mitigation is still being attempted?

First comes cut, then comes cap
I just saw the report the cut part ends, the cap part is next
they should know in 2-3 days
