I agree with you that there are very few people who know what they are talking about when it comes to these pressures and difficulties of working so deep. I own a tool and die company, we mostly build molds for the plastic and rubber industries. I admit I know nothing about a BOP, but I do know a whole lot about what a 1000 ton press can do to any piece of tubing you could find down there, even multiple pipes. I have crushed I-beams and tubing with 1” wallstock without a problem at all, I have been wondering for a while why they don’t lower an old, huge press with a crimping die over the pipe and pinch it shut. I know it sounds too easy to actually work for some reason, but the mechanics of makes sense to be as long as the form on the platen of the press isn’t sharp and cracks the pipe at the pinch-point.
