Mitt Romney’s main strategy in the GOP primaries of 2012 is to hammer Sarah Palin as “a quitter”.

Yesterday, I was interviewed by a reporter for CBS, for a story on the diverse groups of people supporting Sarah Palin online. The reporter authored a book on Palin last year, after being embedded with her vice presidential campaign, following a stint covering Mittens Romney. I can’t imagine how many cucumbers-and-mayonnaise sandwiches this guy had to eat on the Romney Express (to nowhere), but I gave him the same kind of awed respect I grant anyone who’s ever spent more than half an hour with Tim Pawlenty — and didn’t succumb to T-Paw induced narcolepsy.

We (the reporter and I, not Tim Pawlenty or Mittens) met up at Nookie’s Tree in Boystown and talked about Sarah Palin over coffee. Doing enough of these interviews over the course of the last few years, and being interviewed by some great people like Andrea Shea King and Tammy Bruce, I can usually spot the story the reporter wants to tell by the way his questions unfold and what he keeps coming back to whenever I take the conversation on one of my tangents about how terrible the current administration is. The story CBS wants to do on Palin’s supporters appears to be something in the realm of “an unthinking, personal, and emotional defense of a woman they love”. It’s not a negative story, and the reporter doesn’t seem like the kind who would write a hit piece, on either Palin herself or on me as a Palin-supporter, but the impression I got from him was that he’s projecting the Left’s Obama cult of personality onto Palin supporters — when nothing could be further from the truth.

Most of the questions asked of me were in the vein of how I felt whenever Palin was attacked, and what makes me defend her.

How’s Sarah Palin doing with her ENDORSING and CAMPAIGNING for RINO, McPain?

Non-sequitur. Has no relevancy to Palin's presidential prospects.

Despite the impression we may get on Free Republic, Sarah Palin appeal is limited in the Republican base. It is limited to a portion of the conservative base and not all the conservative base let alone the moderates Republicans and independents who vote Republicans where her appeal is rather small.Palin fans greatly underestimate the super political problem she has made to herself by quiting her governor position in Alaska barely 2.5 years in her first term. No matter what the excuses you hear from her fans, these excuses are not going to work outside of 25% of the electorate.

You're already known for being totally against Sarah Palin. I am fine with that. I do not expect everyone here to be FOR her, but whenever praise is warranted, I believe praise should be granted to her and that's a rarity here from those who don't like her. Constructive criticism is good and competition is what makes all candidates better.

Distortions are never helpful and opinions are merely opinions.

Sarah Palin now lags Obama only 45-47 after showing deficits of eight or seven points in each of the last three months.

Both Obama and Palin have increased their base support, but Palin now trails Obama among independents 39-46 versus 35-49 in March.

Exactly right, no military service from the Romney family, generation after generation, and yet this man wants to be CIC.

"I also hope people like Jim DeMint, Mike Pence, Paul Ryan and others will join the primaries."

Now your talking. I would add Bachmann to that list as well. The current prospects being mentioned do not excite me.

No, it shows her principles ... . Sarah Palin doesn’t have a chance at being President. I see her as a good attack dog for the left on some issues. Let that be her role.

That really irks me. Perhaps “irks” isn’t a strong enough word.

Not a single one is a truthful "quit".

Although it was parenthetical, Gates quitting Harvard is one. Limbaugh quitting college after only one year, as well.

Reagan quit a Communist front group in Hollywood when he found out what it was (he and some other actor/actress were needed to give it credibility, it folded after they quit). Palin herself quit the oil board she was on so she could go after them.

This is not about who gets the next VP spot at IBM. At this level, it is not about resume. She made the best possible decision for her state, herself and her country under the circumstances.

“Better than your hero, Slick Willard, who did the same.”

LOL!!!

If you like McPain, you’ll love Sarah Palin.

I see McPain as a RINO that needs RETIREMENT.

So, who are you supporting who has the base and can energize the huge crowds like Sarah Palin.
Who city after city lined up over night in the snow to have Sarah Palin sign her book.

It’s something that needs to be addressed. I’d like to hear the reasons.

One dynamic of Governor Palin you fail to understand is passion.

Palin brings out passion among voters. You either love her or hate her. But nobody is indifferent to her. Voters will be indifferent to Pawlenty, Barbour, DeMint, etc because they're promoting the same-old statist agenda. With Palin, you get people actually talking about her in the taverns, arguing at the water-coolers, and engaging in fierce debate about who she is and what her policies are. Inevitably, her detractors will get demoralized at the level of support she draws.

Already, her critics are not talking about how dumb she is or making jokes about her anymore. They're desperately trying to refute her on the issues, and it's failing.

You can dislike Palin all you want, but your opinion is simply in the minority. Palin supporters will go to the corners of the Earth for her. They won't do that with the other GOP candidates.

Romney addressed the issue in 2008, I believe. If I recall correctly, he claimed that his sons were serving the country by helping him with his campaign.

No, it shows her principles

Principles such as loyalty and keeping her word?

Sarah Palin doesn’t have a chance at being President.

When she declares then you can make an assessment.

I see her as a good attack dog for the left on some issues. Let that be her role.

You are seeing this through the prism of party politics. You don't see the leadership aspect of it. Nobody is willing to get attacked 24/7 by speaking their views day in and day out. Palin has.

No, she quit which was the best financial decision for herself.

And you are stretching real hard to equate quitting college with quitting an elected position.

It is naive in the extreme to assert that her quitting would not be the major point against her if she chooses to run, which I think will not happen.

Well here is 10 more

1.Obama quit his senate job
2.Biden quit his senate job
3.Clinton quit her senate job
4.huntsman quit his Governor job
5. Napolitano quit her Governor job
6. rahm quit his congress job
7. Kathleen Sebelius quit her governorship job
8. Michelle Obama quit her taxpayer financed medical field job
9. Newt quit his congress job
10. Steven Chu quit his job as a professor.

the list is endless. People quit their jobs for many reasons. Some to move up in the world, some to avoid going into bankruptcy, some just to get away form it all. It is important if someone quits or not. what is important is what they do after they quit.
