Why is it that everyone wants smaller government, except when they want bigger government. If Obama had jumped into the middle of BP efforts immediately, would he have been accused of typical socialist type interference with free capitalism? Meanwhile, there seems to be a new culprit in the problem besides BP, Transocean and Halliburton. Seems H needed something their supplier did not send, but proceeded with the cement anyway. See link:
That's like saying Company X started a forest fire and then saying lets hold off sending the fire department so that Company X can put out the fire themselves. If it was only Company X's property being damaged that would be one thing, but when the fire is destroying other peoples property it absolutely is a government obligation to do something about it.
When oil was spewing out totally uncontrolled BP lost control of the situation. In addition the damage now being done is to other peoples property far beyond BP’s work site. That is exactly when government should step in and take control.
We want government to follow the law that is already on the books, not keep creating new laws. BP was supposed to have disaster plans. These disaster plans were supposed to be overseen by the government. Instead BP asked for an exemption and got it. Looks like those campaign donations worked in granting them their exemptions.
We have a government that interprets the law any way they want. To hell with the Constitution, lets just make it up as we go along.
