Goldbug ping

Glenn Beck had the president of Goldline on his show today, and made it quite clear that he believes this is coming directly from the White House. The vilification of goldbugs has begun.

Mail me to get on or off the Free Republic Goldbug Ping List.

The 0bama-bots want to lump _goldbugs in with other anti-government types like tea party I guess.

They will fail. Plenty of lefties own gold. Even more accurately...there are tons of left libertarian types who are pro-precious metals

The fastest growing trend right now is tea party type libertarians who hate big spending hack politicians of all kinds. And these people like precious metals or at least don’t view owning them as a big deal.

Please list concrete examples of societies in the last 6,000 years when owning gold was worthless.

Yes I know that according to the talk radio ads that “gold has never been worth nothing”,......

All I’m saying is that if the Islamofascists nuke NYC or DC that there is going to be a lot of chaos and if things get REALLY bad that what will be really valuable will be food, guns and ammo, etc. and that all the gold in the world won’t be worth as much as some ammo or food.

We’ll be bartering and perhaps gold will be worth something to someone, but if you’re starving what would you rather have a hamburger or a block of gold?

Have you read that book “The Road”? I hope it never gets that grim here.

Look, there have been horrible famines, wars, plagues in the last 6000 years, and people have ALWAYS been able to use gold. I’m not saying it’s all you need. A supply of food, water, trade goods, a practical skill set and weapons and ammunition also are essential. But having some gold or silver might make the difference between survival and death, even in the worst situation.

Besides there’s a huge range of circumstances between business as usual ( actually a RARE state in human history) and TEOTWAWKI, Zombie Apocalypse, Road Warrior scenarios where only guns and food supposedly matter.

WTSHTF, what will it be worth?

It will be worth lots and lots of foreign currency which can be traded for the 'new" American dollars that the next American Republic will issue after the collapse of the Old American Republic. Trade with beans to eat and live but re-monetize your offshore gold holdings with new fiat currency after the dust settles. That's why FDR didn't want the American Peasants to own gold... its the re-monetizing...

Amazing. Libs create economic chaos, then complain about people who respond in a rational, market-based way.

Actually, the guys who lived thru Argentina recommend it. They say you aren't going to go out trying to barter for goods with gold bricks, coins, whatever..
