Current Attorney General of Connecticut, and democratic contender for the Senate seat currently held by Chris Dodd, Richard Blumenthal, has apparently lied about serving in Vietnam:
"We have learned something important since the days that I served in Vietnam, Mr. Blumenthal said to the group gathered in Norwalk in March 2008. And you exemplify it. Whatever we think about the war, whatever we call it Afghanistan or Iraq we owe our military men and women unconditional support. ...There was one problem: Mr. Blumenthal, a Democrat now running for the United States Senate, never served in Vietnam. He obtained at least five military deferments from 1965 to 1970 and took repeated steps that enabled him to avoid going to war, according to records.

You can tell this is a hot topic. It’s the third thread I’ve seen on this subject since I sat down in front my computer 15 minutes ago. We will hound Blumenthal at every public function from now on about this remark.

True. It remains to be seen whether this will ruin his shot at the senate seat. Probably not, after all it is Connecticut.

What a POS! I am a Vietnam era vet, I always make it clear that I was never in country, that it is a designation based on when the war officially ended, not a statement of service in Nam. The men and women who served in country deserve so much more respect and even implying by misleading statements that he is one of them is disgraceful. The man should not be elected village dog catcher let alone the Senate.
