I have yet to watch an Allen film that made me laugh. Not chuckle but out and out laugh.
His shtick is pathos - but he's so pathetic as a human being it simply fits and does not create any humor.

You don't know how true that is with Woody Allen. He has a constant low grade depression. I read a article on his films and he said each film is about his life in some form. The guy is perverted and extremely strange.
Talking at the press launch of 'Match Point' at Cannes, Woody Allen said:
"I make films because if I don't make them then I don't have anything to distract me. My whole life I am constantly fighting all kinds of depression and terror and anxiety and I find that, like a mental patient in an institution, that if they keep the patient busy finger painting then they are more relaxed."
Allen made a conscious decision after the movies Sleeper and Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex to avoid movies requiring him to leave New York or use big budgets or special effects. He makes small personal movies that don't have to have a large audience to turn a profit.
I don't like Allen's politics or his movies, but I do admire his ability to make the movies he wants to make on his own terms.
A guy goes hunting in the woods. He sees a bear, raises his rifle and fires, "Bam".
He goes over to where the bear was. He can't find anything. There's a tap on his shoulder and the guy turns around to see the bear. The bear asks him, "Did you just try to shoot me?"
The man, shivering in fright, nods yes.
"Well then" the bear says, "get on your knees and service me!"
The guy does and the bear lets him go.
The next week the guy goes back with a bigger rifle looking for the bear. He sees him in nearly the same spot.
BAM! He fires again. He runs over to the spot and the bear's not there. Again, there's a tap on his shoulder. His shoulders slump and he turns to find the bear standing there.
"Did you just try to shoot me again" asks the bear?
The guy just nods.
The bear says, "This time take off your pants and bend over the log!"
The guy goes out and gets an elephant gun. He goes into the woods looking for the bear again. He spots the bear and fires BA-BAM!
He runs over to the spot and of course, the bear's not there. He sighs.
There's a tap on his shoulder and he turns around to find the bear once again.
"You're not out here for the hunting, are you" asks the bear?
Well, he isn’t a full dictator, but he’s partway there, if you know what I mean and I think you do.
