Ten Things for 2010 (Denninger/Market Ticker Strong Warning)
The Market Ticker ^ | May 14, 2010 | Karl Denninger

Posted on 05/14/2010 8:42:21 PM PDT by Travis McGee

(This is from the middle, but go to the link and read it all.)

Get those "sudden stop" plans in place - NOW. If you're in a big city you're in big trouble. Find friends or relatives that aren't and see what you can do about a place to go where you have a reasonable shot at avoiding the worst of this. Look, all-out civil unrest (or worse) is a low-probability event but if you get trapped in a big city and the worst comes that city will go feral within hours and become a free-fire zone. What's worse, many of these cities are openly hostile to citizens having and using effective self-defense; the bad guys don't give a damn about laws - that's why they're called criminals. There really are bogey men in the world - they're called gangs folks, and they would love the opportunity that a breakdown that would come with such an event. In such a circumstance the only way to win the game is not to play. This is all about where you are, not what you have.

If you haven't acquired the means of lawful self-defense in whatever form or fashion you deem prudent at this point, the time to do so was yesterday. You need time and practice as you need competence - the biggest component of self-defense is the thing found between your ears, not the thing in your hand(s)! I know I've harped on this before but if you think you can go buy a gun when things get dicey and be "protected", having invested nothing in practice and/or training you are very likely to have that weapon taken from you and then be shot with your own gun. That's a crappy way to die; if you're unwilling or unable for whatever reason (including legal restrictions where you live) to acquire the means of defense then being concerned about the above (where you're going to go, how you're going to get there, and what you've got for supplies) becomes even more important.

... and we now know the answer to your question. The buyer of last resort is the treasury itself via intermediaries.

Sounds like perpetual motion, but it’s just inertia. Those were some big hamsters on that wheel, and their weight is keeping it spinning long after they died.

Dude if you are down to blades the outlook is not good. I do not want them to get closer than 100 yards. Find a local place that teaches combat shooting. Preferably an ex-SEAL of even better a D-boy. I have been shooting all my life - for a time for Uncle Sugar. On of my sons was a D-boy for eight years. He has taught me things about shooting I would never have learned on my own or from any NRA instructor. SEALs are good but tend to overkill everything. D-boys are into more controlled takedowns. Many local ranges now have simulated urban environs to practice in.

" I don’t think I’ve seen Denninger give such a dire warning before."

Try this:

What's Dead (Short Answer: All Of It)

Karl Denninger
Market Ticker
Mar 9, 2009

* Civil unrest will break out before the end of the year. The Military and Guard will be called up to try to stop it. They won't be able to. Big cities are at risk of becoming a free-fire death zone. If you live in one, figure out how you can get out and live somewhere else if you detect signs that yours is starting to go "feral" - witness New Orleans after Katrina for how fast, and how bad, it can get."

"The good news is that this process will clear The Bezzle out of the system."

"The bad news is that you won't have a job, pension, annuity, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and, quite possibly, your life."

"It really is that bleak folks, and it all goes back to Washington DC being unwilling to lock up the crooks, putting the market in the role it has always played - that of truth-finder, no matter how destructive that process is."

Wow, I think I’ll give Hoboken a pass!

Fortunately, the “meanest tribe” in my county wears Realtree, Mossy Oak and Advantage as their gang colors.

No problem.

That's the one that really got my butt into gear.

We should all pray for a “muddle through” outcome.

I agree with 56, but would add that their ultimate goal is to propose a single global currency and central bank as the “only solution” to the global economic collapse.

In the hands of socialists, who will be able to pull the strings globally.

This will lead to CW2, at least in the USA, because half of us just won’t buy into it, no matter what.

Huh? What? There's no such thing, dude! "When in doubt, overload!"

(Just kidding, sort of.)

Gets kind of warm down there. How’s the living without A/C if the power goes out for a few days/weeks/months/years?

“Any suggestions for training?”

Mindset, nothing more needed. You must be willing, not rationalizing. Need should bring a fight, not desire. The motivation is your life; know when it is in danger and act like it. Too many people want to turn wars into police actions with arrests and trials, or treat bad guys as misunderstood children. Nothing will get you killed faster.

I used to teach women’s’ self defense and I always started with a simple visualization trick. I would have a “victim” stand with her eyes closed and hands at her side. I’d come up from behind her all the while talking softly that she is about to be raped, beaten and strangled. Then, I’d grab her from behind by the throat, gently, but enough that she got the message that I was a rapist and she was immediately the victim.

After a few seconds I’d let go then ask her what she saw with her eyes closed. In 99% of the time the “victim” saw herself being raped or dead on the ground. Until I could change that, until she saw the attacker dead on the ground and herself standing over him victorious, no matter what I taught them, they would always be the dead victim in real life. I needed to change their mindset to one of the hunter and not the hunted. So, throughout the classes I would always ensure the situational lessons were with her winning and him dead. They always started with their eyes closed and them seeing a dead bad guy, not her dead. See it; then do it. The goal is the bad guy must lose, not her. She must know what that looks like, practice doing it, and expect it.

A few of those women did become victims only to win over their attackers, and each said it was their knowledge of what a defeated bad guy looked like and felt like and that was what they used to overcome their attackers. They knew they had the skills to win and the mindset to do it. They saw him dead, not themselves, and that was their goal. None actually killed their attackers but they did pretty good numbers on them and got away. Mindset; be real, know what should be, and accomplish that at all costs.

You don’t need to be a military trained warrior, a martial arts experts, or big and strong. You only need to make use of what you’ve got, know what the outcome needs to be and do it. No rationalizations, no moral discussions, no academic exercises, nothing...but...doing. If you know what must be then you will find a way to make it happen. If you decide to rationalize, you’ve decide to lose.
