Shallow? I don't think so. If you are going to make a feel-good lump-in-the-throat ad for your brand, you don't do a few things:

If you are going to do a lump-in-the-throat ad for your brand, hire the guys who do Anheuser Busch's ads:

Looks like we have a bunch of low-brow classical music Freepers here on this fine Mother’s Day. Check out my explanation in #21. This ad is closer to campy and cliche than it is to anything approaching great.

Well, if this is the stuff that turns you on, so be it.

Any reference to Pachelbel's Canon in D needs this in response.

Youtube: Pachelbel Rant

I never realized how pervasive Pachelbel's chord progression was before this rant.

Yes, “shallow”.
Because you can't see the beauty in the story.
You have some sense of superiority that draws you to criticize details that 99% of the audience can't see and don't care about.

How are your children doing in therapy?

Wow!

(Can the deaf really play violin? By feeling the vibrations? Will I paint better if I use Pantene?)

“Some of the best ads I’ve seen I couldn’t tell you what they were advertising. I don’t know whether that’s good or bad.”

I was so stunned by it from the beginning that I was not going to turn it off until it ended. After all, there was that great music and a tragic storyline of her being deaf but won the music competition....And this, at the end, is when the ad for Pantene kicked in. But that is just me.

That was a great commercial. Imagine how much better it would have been if the girl was not only deaf, but had a dandruff problem also.

Beethoven became deaf but continued to write genius music in spite of his awful handicap. But then, he did not play an instrument at that time.

Some folks here are missing the point. Everyone knows a deaf person can not play the violin at least in competition.

Get real. This is just a wonderful story with a great ending. And all of us know she really wasn’t playing the violin as a real instrument. You are far off base thinking we are stupid. You are the one for misjudging us

I hope not. We don’t need the likes of you.

Get real? I loved it!

My question was sincere. A year or so ago a deaf percussionist from Scotland played with the Nashville Symphony. She wore no shoes and “heard” through vibrations in the floor.

It’s a fabulous commercial. Seriously excellent.

Reminded me of the Karate Kid, all shrunk down to what was that, 2 minutes?

rickmichaels,

I meant my post #9 to go to you, but I am sure iowamomforfreedom didn’t mind my sending it to her. I’m telling you, this really choked me up it was so great.

Me too. Despite the critics here, it is a great message, and a very moving video.

And I am also a Pantene user.

If true, and I’m not going to sit here and argue one way or the other, you are talking about percussionist vibrations. Other instruments do not have “vibrations” no more than a piano, violin, flute.

I apologize. I misunderstood you.

If you want to hear a real talented drummer, go here; and he was not deaf. It is Lloy Davis of Dave Brubeck’s “Take Five.”

What happened to such great talent?
