He's a moron. The locals rose up and seized the mexican garrison in California before the American military ever got there.

From Wiki

On June 15, 1846, some thirty settlers, mostly American citizens, staged a revolt and seized the small Mexican garrison in Sonoma. They raised the "Bear Flag" of the California Republic over Sonoma. The republic was in existence scarcely more than a week before the U.S. Army, led by Frémont, took over on June 23. The California state flag today is based on this original Bear Flag and still contains the words, "California Republic."

The simple fact is that there were probably no more than 10,000 people in the entire southwest at the beginning of the mexican American war and nearly every last one of them happily swore allegiance to the USA because mexico simply left them here as placeholders and basically forgot about them.

I think that there were about 80,000 people total in the area of the southwest that we bought (BOUGHT) from Mexico.
They considered themselves Spanish settlers, not Mexicans.

Treaty of Guadelupe Hidalgo

Treaty between the U.S. and Mexico

Concluded at Guadalupe Hidalgo, February 2, 1848; Ratification Advised by Senate, with Amendments, March 10, 1848; Ratified by President, March 16, 1848; Ratifications Exchanged at Queretaro, May 30, 1848; Proclaimed, July 4, 1848.....(See link for more.)

Sorry Mexico. We bought it, its ours.

Occupied Mexico? The U.S. won a war with Mexico (1846-1848). Our troops marched into Mexico City. By the rules of the day we could have occupied and annexed the territory that we conquered. We didn’t do that. We signed a peace treaty with Mexico, The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo.
We PURCHASED most of the American southwest for the sum of 15 million ... See moredollars (380m today). The U.S. also wrote off 3.25 million of debts that Mexico owed U.S. citizens and was in danger of default. At the time Mexico was basically bankrupt and we needed land for expansion.
About 15 years later we purchased the remainder of what is now the American southwest (Arizona and New Mexico) for the sum of 10 million via the Gadsden Purchase.
This guy is a liar and a traitor. He should be tried for sedition.
