Video: Senator Menendez uses Gulf disaster to promote his crusade against off shore drilling!

Dem. Senator Menendez speaks against the proposed coastline drilling plans in light of the tragic accident in the Gulf, at a press conference on the coast in Ocean Grove, NJ. He “pleased to be there” in order to use the occasion to campaign against an “archaic” energy source. “We have been saying that the drill, baby, drill crowd is not in the best interests of the United States particularly when what we are going to drill for is an energy source of the past….one that creates enormous risk to OUR coastline….and one that would produce only a FEW drop of gasoline at the end of the day“. I don’t get it: Over a million of gallons of oil have already leaked into the gulf from a source that would only produce a FEW drop of gasoline! That’s odd. He continues: “Drilling is simply not the answer….we can’t let these spills happen....here….in the USA!” Menendez claims that “The loss of life and environmental impact are EQUALLY horrific!” Loss of life always trumps environmental impact in my book! There was no mention of the “prompt” action of the EPA which otherwise might have significantly reduced the current environmental impact. (Video at link)

Like to see the ninny stop Russia, China, and Mexico from drilling out there. It’s gonna happen anyway, might as well be us doing the drilling. And besides the oil tankers are even worse.

Has he done his part by giving up anything that uses oil? Until then, STFU.

There will be off-shore drilling in the Gulf of Mexico whether or not we allow it. If we allow it, it will be done by American lessees with high safety standards and the resources to respond when something goes wrong.

If we don't allow it, the leases will be paid to Cuba, Mexico or other countries in the Gulf with poor safety standards and the "Who Gives a Damn" attitude if something goes wrong unless, by some happy coincidence, they are first world companies.

Good luck collecting anything from a Russian, Chinese or Cuban oil driller who has a leak or spill.

Apparently a foreign entity (British Petrol) was already on this rig.

Correct, but BP is, at least, a first world company with some sense of responsibility. Did they act 100% responsibly? Probably not and I can't say for sure until all the facts come out.

But I can guarantee you that they still behave more responsibly than Petromex or some Russian or Chinese company if, for not other reason, that that they have a huge customer base and business assets in the United States which generate revenue to pay for lawsuits.
