I’ve heard stories about our sailors sorta slacking in their duties as of late. I fondly recall movies where sailors were always working, heads in scopes and paying attention to the mechanics of their vessels. Can any recent Navy vets attest to the readiness of our fleets?
I think this might be more a case of an unglamorous mission (ASW) getting the short end of the stick for decades.
I joined the Navy in 1987. I heard plenty of stories about sailors during the Carter years doing lines off the radar scope and smoking joints on the fantail.
