The Gulf of Mexico oil spill is a good test for the spines of todays Republican Party. One Republican has already passed the test, and as usual, thats Sarah Palin. The signs from the others are not encouraging.
A day after pundit Charles Krauthammer declared drill, baby, drill to be history in light of the spill, and two days after the Obama Administration halted all domestic drilling (gee, what a surprise), Palin came out and invoked her moral authority as an Alaskan who lived through the Exxon Valdez spill.

Hunter advocated domestic drilling and extraction while Sarah was still in high school.
We have a Sarah Palin Ping List... for all who want to keep up on anything Sarah Palin, who could very well be our next President.
Send a FReepmail to -- Virginia Ridgerunner -- and he'll get you on the ping list.
Go Sarah!
Has he made any recent statements that I have missed?
If you think Hunter would change his mind because of an oil spill then you don’t know anything about him at all.
I understand what you are saying, but he is going to look irrelevant if he says nothing.
I was going to make a Chuck Norris-related joke in regards to Hunter and Palin, but at the last second thought that it would be inappropriate.
Hunter doesn’t have a twitter or facebook account to immediately comment on things. I don’t think he even has an email account since he left office.
Is Chuck a Sarah guy?
It's scary that this kind of thing could happen and everybody seems surprised that oil would come out of a hole in the (underwater) ground until the hole is closed. The plan should include an estimate of how much oil would come out, and what actions will be taken when to remediate the problem.
Specifically, if the agency responsible for remediation knows that X barrels (or gallons) will leak out, a solution that takes a week will result in (X times number of days) worth of oil will be on the surface, and needs to be cleaned up.
If you use an accident as an excuse to ban drilling, again, what was the excuse last time? then you will always be dependent upon those countries that are willing to deal with the realities of oil production. And they will get the big bucks for doing it. And we’ll ship boatloads of cash to them, which they will use to buy up our economy.
The very same companies that drill here will drill there instead and put their people to work and fund their national treasuries. The very same companies that would clean up after our accidents will clean up their accidents.
Its a decision you have to make. Do you want to be energy independent or not? Do you want to run double digit unemployment or not? Do you want a bankrupt economy or not? Do you like shipping half a trillion a year out of the country buying what you’ve got bubbling up through the ocean floor a couple of miles off shore? Do you like seeing your homebuilders and carmakers standing on streetcorners unemployed because the very people who would normally buy their cars and houses are also standing on streetcorners unemployed too?
You can elect people who will insist on energy independence, or you can continue to elect shills for OPEC who masquerade as “green”.
Assuming Hunter and Ryan (and Palin) have spoken up, he's right -- where are the rest of the Republicans??
Good article.
You say that like it’s a good thing.
Obviously, he isn't interested in communicating with any great number of people. Since he isn't trying to get his message out any other way, it's safe to assume he isn't interested in any future political office.
Sure, that’s the ticket.

BTW, he is finishing up not one, but two books.
Did the USA decide to abandon WWII when they suffered severe casualties at Wake Island shortly after Pearl Harbor?
Hey sh*t happens in any endeavor in life. Whether it is a plane crash, getting beaned by a foul ball, slipping on an icy street or falling down your stairs at home.
Yes an oil spill occurred. But does that mean we should never declare a full moratorium on offshore drilling forever? Should we also never get on a plane again or suspend all commercial air traffic, stop spectators from attending baseball games ever again, not go outside any longer after a heavy snowfall or after frozen ice has had a fair chance to form on city sidewalks or streets, or not walk up and down any set of stairs any longer.
Hey, I guess we could, but life is life, and Americans have a lot more spirit and gumption to deny themselves the right to live their lives pursuing their dreams and ideals and pursuing their own happiness given that a certain amount of risk is involved in any activity we choose to enter into or participate in.
She is the leader. She will win. She will fight.
Who cares about Hunter? He has as much chance of being the nominee as you do.
Conservatives care. And we won’t let the RINO wing of the party control things this time out.
Where is he now?
Issued any pro-drilling statements after the oil spill?
