CNN’s Rick Sanchez did a segment last week on Reese Hopkins (pictured, right), a former Boston-area radio talk show host who is charged with raping an 11-year-old girl in 2004 in the Manhattan apartment he shared with his fiancée. The alleged victim was a friend of his fiancée’s daughter. Hopkins has been imprisoned for 18 months, most of it on Rikers Island, on $100,000 cash bail.
We’ve covered this case on and off for 15 months, and I’ve spoken with Hopkins from prison. In Glenn Sacks eyes Reese Hopkins case (Boston Herald, 1/16/09), I explained:
I’m not going to declare [Hopkins] innocent and white as snow, but I think there are a lot of very tangible problems with the prosecution’s case that point to possible innocence.
My position is still the same, except that I now believe there is increasing reason to believe that Hopkins may be innocent.

I used to listen to this talk show host and I believe he’s getting railroaded. He’s been sitting in jail, without bail funds, for well over a year.

He was/is guilty of being black and conservative.
He may well be innocent. However, at this point it’s entirely up to the jury to decide, not the media, conservative media or otherwise.
If there aren’t any hospital records, what’s the evidence?
I find it amazing, from the video, that the courts/DA offered him a sentence of time served for admitting to rape of a child. If they have a worthy case why would they toss out a plea bargain like that?
Good for him to not take the plea bargain.
Something is extremely fishy with this supposed case.
Was it a lack of bail money? How much did the judge demand?
From what I've read in the article the evidence is purely *She said/He said*
Of course kids/people are not known to fabricate so he sits in jail for months waiting for a trial. With the DA offering a 'time-served' bargain I don't think they have any evidence.

A $100,000 bail would mean a $10,000 actual cost, right?
I am surprised people didn’t try to pull the money together for that. That is a shame.
A Gag Order is in effect as of April 8th. You can follow the case at Webcrims. Control date is May 5th. That’s all I can say.
Looks like the defense has solid evidence he wasn’t even in the same freaking state when the rapes occurred.
Sure smells like a railroad. Politically motivated, or just overzealous prosecution? Or both?
IMHLO, the "time served" plea bargain for what is a heinous crime indicates "no case, no evidence." Has this man no attorney?
Prediction: Not enough to go to trial. Exhorbitant bail. Case will be dropped. He will be released. No resolution. Stigmatized for life.
This is pubescent hysteria. Common enough. It is also not unknown for young girls to blame a discovered loss of virginity on whomever is handy! Sorry.
The article said $100K Cash Bail, so I'm assuming it's $100K cash!
