Take this link with you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1CLPhz0DHM

Once the teacher & the school officials see it there will be no question about who is right. It’s you son!

Get a lawyer. Whether you sue or whether you just get a public apology you’ll need a lawyer. If not in court than in the wings as a threat to go to court.

You may have to take some crap for being so bold as to take a stand but nothing really good is ever gained easily. We see the principle expressed eery day on this or other forums. I paraphrase, but ‘all that is required for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.’

Any possibility of other conservatives in that class who can substantiate those (disgusting) remarks by the teacher?

We have home schooled. All of our kids have gone from public to home school and cyber school. He is the last of 3 and wanted to finish out in high school. We were home schooling when home schooling wasn’t cool!
AS for me, I am actually a long term substitute in a middle school. I have a teaching degree, so I am also working in the school district, different school.

The atty idea might be sound, even as a feeler for what your son’s & your rights are. Is there a harrassment undercurrent? A racist one? In at least one respect, your relationship to a school district is based on law, as you can be brought up on charges for truancy. Besides, and administration talks to lawyers better than it does to parents. Demonstrating to a school system that your child’s rights are valuable protects him from further actions.

“I have already written down everything he said. She said this in front of several of the other students. There was another teacher in the room as well who may or may not have heard this. She was sitting at a desk in the middle of the room. He has drawn me a map of the room and made a list of the other students there at the the time.”

Sounds like your ready to go. Got a good conservative Rep, by any chance? Or one that is willing to steer you to a good LOCAL attorney? Or one that is running for office against a Dem incumbent? They might be helpful, though I would steer clear of their personal active involvement. This is way beyond apologies. If you and your son are up for it, she should be gone. Remember how those young men got treated at Duke ... don’t let him get this tag.

And seriously...think about another school...if she thinks this shit is OK to say out loud in a classroom, who knows what else they are drilling those poor kids with.

You should have your son bring a camera phone and videotape discreetly the next few days. See if the teacher brings up the subject again and GET IT ON VIDEO or, at least, audio tape. Put it on YouTube. In lieu of a tape, I’d still definitely confront the school and teacher over this incident. Just imagine the outcry if the situation were reversed and a white teacher said this of a black-majority protest group.

Got witnesses? Can you possible get a recording if he says it again?

You could sue and try to get the teacher fired, but it would would be much more effective to get a tape as evidence. Maybe as a "school project'. Tape the teacher ranting about the same thing and then play it on Youtube. The teacher would get fired all the same, and it would bring national attention to the issue.

Just out of curiosity, if another adult is ever in such a room, would it be a good idea to confront the teacher on the spot? You know, call her out on it in front of the class? What if you are say...a substitute teacher’s aid?

What about asking her to meet you out of the room for an “important discussion”.

The sad thing is this happens all the time. Why should public school teachers have higher level of free speech?

There are many great ideas but I would demand equal time in the classroom to counter her ignorant statement......start out the conversation by asking if anyone has ever been to a tea party and look at the teacher........explain to them how important it is not to form an opinion based on media bias and to form an opinion on tea parties only if they have been to an event.... then highlight your experience at these events....

also hand out copies of the Constitution......and ask them to read it.....

Mike, I know the easiest thing to do is just let this go and move on. But I had a similar situation with my son’s high school in his junior year, and it’s funny how quickly they changed their stance when the local Fox affiliate news crew showed up to interview the principal.

The night before, he had called our local talk radio station who invested 15 minutes of air time exposing the situation that had Hispanic students raising the Mexican flag over Old Glory in their Cinco de Mayo celebration.

See if you can get some publicity for this with your local radio or TV newsroom - imagine the furor if a white teacher said that all NAACP members were racists? It works BOTH ways, baby!

If it were me I would have gotten detention for suggesting that the teacher get a white “black caucus” member to come speak to the class about racism.

Ok, my 16 year old son told me a few minutes ago that all tea parties are racist. She was sitting in a class of about 15 students discussing segregation laws.

Son or daughter? You said, "she."

Get the parents of the other children present to complain too. Pile on.

Exactly...are other parents aware of the hate-filled bile this woman is spewing to their children? We should ALL be asking our children what kind of BS is being spread within the walls of your local school.

Our local High School has a health teacher who pushes “Supersize Me” as gospel and laughs at the “fat Americans” and says all the other countries are better.
