It's utterly demeaning - especially when you consider that there are so many fine examples of black people who've achieved the American Dream through their own efforts.

It so happens I've got a book about Oscar Micheaux on my To Read stack. He's an example of how, in racist times, simply DID what no one else was doing in his field (in his case, directing movies for black audiences in the early part of the 20th century).

That America has shameful events in its past isn't evidence of evil; that it created the environment for those who were oppressed to not only TRY but THRIVE until the country could come around is proof of its greatness.

Or as I asked someone in heated conversation about Micheaux, "Where are the great Soviet black filmmakers--unheralded in their time or otherwise?" :P

Well said. I've had that thought many times, but have never expressed it with quite that clarity.

Blacks who have looked around themselves and noted the truth of what you said, are the same ones who usually wind up escaping the liberal mind control plantation.
