Who’s Fred Malek and why should you care? Think of him as sort of the Beltway-insider equivalent of John Ziegler. Like Ziegs, he’s a Sarahcuda defender par excellence, and like Ziegs, he doesn’t think she’s angling for a serious shot at the presidency. From a WaPo profile last year describing him as “the authority on Palin”:

The party’s using her for the positive PR. The positive effect of her name will wear off, and they’ll discard her.
If she’s a mind to run towards the White House, she’s going to have to do what you say - ditch the RINOs and let her true colors show through.
I’m not sure at this point that she wants to seek higher office, and that’s OK too. As long as she understands that the party is full of RINOs that are as ruthless as the punks on the left.

The Lefties want Sarah to run, they can’t attack here unless she runs. Their attacks upon a private citizen can be taken to court, especially the “Intent” to lie and liable.
Sarah isn’t going to run until the last possible moment, and then maybe not even then.

Fred Malek worked for Nixon and got into pretty serious trouble helping Nixon target “Jewish officials” whom Nixon deemed subversive. He left government during the Ford administration and was MIA (or maybe it was persona non grata) during the Reagan Administration.
He showed up in the very next moderate GOP administration (that of G.H.W. Bush) and was appointed campaign manager for Bush’s reelection effort. He thus has “hands on” experience managing the worst election defeat of an elected incumbent Republican President in 60 years since Hoover.
As has been pointed out, this guy is in the tank for Romney. He has a list of top ten contenders which I link below in which he names Haley Barbour and Mike Castle and Mark Kirk ahead of Palin on the list.

Why would I take advantage of a guy who converted the magnificent 49 state 60% Reagan landslide of 1984 into a 37% disaster that resulted in the first defeat of an elected, incumbent GOP president since Hoover? Yet old Allahpundit taqke him for the Gospel. Sarah Palin sdoes not need the advice of this old RINO.
SShortly after she resigned as governor, they asked her if that did not mean the end of her career, and her reply was, If I die, I die.” which is a quote from the Book of Esther, by Esther who took a great chance rescuing her people.

AP’s quote of Malek’s is not found in the video or even is own right up. He said she is focusing on 2010 and that is the right thing to do.
In my opinion, Romney, Huckabee, and Pawlenty are going for the nomination too soon.
