Former Saddam Hussein deputy captured in Iraq
Former Saddam Hussein deputy and the most wanted fugitive in Iraq has been captured in a special operation on al-Qaeda in Iraq, Sify News information agency said.
Former vice president of Iraq under Saddam Hussein’s regime and deputy chairman of the Baath party’s Revolutionary Command Council, Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri, was arrested in a joint raid held by the Iraqi and U.S. troops.
He was one of the most influential figures in the former regime and is believed to head an armed wing of the party in Iraq. Indian Hindustantimes news paper said that al-Douri was one of Iraq’s most wanted insurgent leaders, with a $10 million bounty on his head.
Iraqi media said al-Douri was found in a cave in Hamrin mountain, near the al-Qaeda in Mesopotamia “headquarters.”
