I am about to be named my brother's Power of Atty. His daughter is handling things now, but has run against a brick wall.
He is to be discharged from a nursing home after recovering from a concussion. He will be going directly to an assisted living facility. Before the hospita/nursing home visit, he was getting his meds at the VA for free.
His daughter was told today that they will not fill prescriptions from any doctor not related to the VA hospital in Dallas. That HE must come there to see a doctor and then get his prescriptions filled there. That is an ALL DAY excursion. Is there anyway to order his meds thru the mail?
...don’t have to tell me,I went through hell just getting registered. I told the woman that told me I would probably be refused that she didn’t know me that well. Two months later I stopped by her desk to say “hi” ...*smiles*
Please pass this on to all Veterans on you e-mail list.
Below are web-sites that provide information on Veterans benefits and how to file/ask for them. Accordingly, there are many sites that explain how to obtain books, military/medical records, information and how to appeal a denied claim with the VA.
Please pass this information on to every Veteran you know. Nearly 100% of this information is free and available for all veterans, the only catch is: you have to ask for it, because they wont tell you about a specific benefit unless you ask for it.
You need to know what questions to ask so the right doors open for you and then be ready to have an advocate who is willing to work with and for you, stay in the process, and press for your rights and your best interests.

got the same thing a few weeks ago....Military.com is a great site to receive info about VA updates....
I am not sure I understand enough of your problem to help but will try.
My father-in-law used the VA hospital in Amarillo for medical care for many years. He go most of his prescriptions from the VA, but some from private physicians.
The VA has 2 nursing home facilities in Amarillo, one operated by the VA and another by a combination of the State of Texas and the VA. Both are top quality facilities.
The VA Hospital in Amarillo is one of the finest I have ever been in. I am judging that from treatment of 3 of my family members. Admit that I have no knowledge of the workings of the VA Hospital in Dallas.
I regularly ordered refills for my father-in-law through the VA system. Those can be ordered by phone and are mailed to the patient. Refills are a simple process.
As an in-patient I can understand why it would be different. If you want to Freepmail me with details I will try to find a way to help you.

On December 4th, 2009 we lost my father-in-law to Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. He died after 2 weeks in hospice at the Amarillo VA hospital. The staff was the most kind and respecting I have ever encountered.
