During last year's baseball All-star game, Obama was in the Fox television booth for an inning. He told Joe Buck and Tim McCarver that he “grew up in Hawaii.” He said nothing about being born there.
You would think a person who was born there would say something like, “I was born and raised (in Hawaii).”

It seemed a bit odd at the time.
