Republicans will lose many seats in Congress due to right-wing paranoia about the census and refusal to fill out census forms, gloats the liberal web site Daily Kos.
The number of Congressional districts a state gets is based on how many of its citizens return completed census forms. Because voters in conservative states are completing and returning census forms at lower rates than voters in liberal states, conservative states will lose many seats in the House of Representatives that they would otherwise gain due to increases in their population.
Republican-leaning "Red States" will also lose out on billions of dollars in federal funds, which are apportioned based largely on population.

Did anyone tell them that April 1st is when we will mail them in and not before that? Oh and liberals it is bluestates that have the highest unemployment and the more people who have moved away to find jobs so don’t gloat too fast!
Tat commercials just makes me angry. That is not what the census is for!
I thougt they were going to hire 1,000,000 people to go door to door. Cant one just wait?
So you did more than just place the number of people in the right box. Why? (Just curious - not ridiculing.)
From the article:
A few white Census respondents are stupidly listing their race as “human” or “some other race” rather than white, which may unintentionally prolong racial set-aside programs that are obsolete and no longer necessary. By making the white percentage of the population appear smaller than it in fact is, such responses have the effect of making it easier for the federal government to get away with racial quotas, which are based on so-called disparity studies, which measure the perceived gap between racial percentages in the population and racial percentages in awards of government contracts. Under Supreme Court rulings like the 1987 Paradise decision, quotas are supposed to be used only as a “last resort” and for no longer than absolutely necessary. But faulty census data can give them a new
I mailed it two or maybe three days after receiving the form. A week later I received a post card asking me to return quickly if I had not already done so.
First a letter telling me I would be receiving the census form. Next got the form, then the follow up post card. Wasteful people in charge. Never remember this happening before.
I think you can mail it before April 1.
I’m more paranoid about groups like ACORN helping to count the census....
Hell, I’m a right-wing paranoid and I answered the questions???
Same here. I got the same thing. I sent it in the next day and I got the follow up just a few days after that.
So if Republicans in CA do not send in their forms, CA’s seats are reduced?
I did not see a question about income but there is a question if I own or rent the residence where I am living.
So am I.
What I want to know is why half of the page is taken up with racist questions, including a half dozen varieties of spanish speaker, but never is there a question asking how many there are American Citizens.
There are just ten questions. Question eight asks if you're Hispanic. Question nine asks for race.
My thinking was that the counting should also include an accounting of the number of voting age and minors. Maybe it was unnecessary but that was the extent of the info I was willing to provide.
Good thought. Whether you wish to be counted might depend on where you live.
“It won’t be a function of who sent in the forms — it’s a function of who does the counting.”
Bingo!
See post #31. If you're in a blue district then that could be a good thing.
I think that they keep track of returned forms according to address. If no form is returned from your address they will send out an auditor to get your info directly.
HMMMM....do they cross check with the County voting rolls to see who is GOP and who is DEM at the Census? Or...is this all about race?
