With Rihanna rocking out, giant robots, and lots of star power, Nickelodeon’s 23rd Annual Kids’ Choice Awards was held Saturday at UCLA’s Pauley Pavillion, celebrating the best in television, movies, sports, arts and entertainment all voted on and selected by the young viewers of Nickelodeon.

Selena Gomez added a hint of color to the Kids' Choice Awards red carpet by wearing a yellow Christian Cota frock, Sergio Rossi Girandola Bis gladiator sandals and Ippolita jewels.

When I see stuff like this, I get the feeling that the underlying message to kids is this:

You are not sexy enough. It is very important for you, at the ripe old age of 12, to be sexy.

You are not popular enough. The most important thing at your age is popularity. You are failing at that.

You are too fat. Your body does not look like our awesome bodies. Your media-induced low self esteem is completly warranted.

Distance yourself from your parents and their beliefs. They are not only idiots, but serve solely to handicap your growth as a popular person.

Adopt our Hollywood values. All the cool kids are doing it, and you will never be cool and popular unless you adopt our beliefs and worldview.
